Abstract

A tool for cutting "hands" of bananas from the stem of a banana-tree comprises a trough-shaped concave blade with a sharpened leading edge and a haft extending symmetrically from the centre of the rear edge. The haft is of metal, is welded to the blade, and terminates in a short handle at right angles to its length. The haft is bent, intermediately, away from the blade. The sharpened leading edge may be integral with the tool or may comprise a separate blade inserted in an arcuate slot extending around its front edge. In a modification, the haft is not secured to the blade but to an arcuate holder terminating in two rods extending perpendicular to it. The rods have longitudinal slots which are continuous with an arcuate slot extending around the holder, and a flexible arcuate blade is entered into the slots, so that its side and rear edges are retained therein.
