PILLOW SLIPS Jan. 29, 1957 Filed Sept. 12, 1952 INVENTOR. Alfred. W, Fountain .Hl-forney.
United States Patent PILLOW SLIPS Alfred W. Fountain, Bexar, Ark.
Application September 12, 1952, Serial N 309,236
1 Claim. (Cl. 5-339) This invention relates to a new and novel pillow slip.
One of the objects of this invention resides in the provision of a pillow slip having its opposite ends fully open to permit insert of a pillow therein from either end thereof.
Another object of this invention resides in the provision of a pillow slip having opposite ends thereof fully open so it can be easily and quickly turned in side out for washing it from both sides thereof.
A further object of this invention resides in the provision of a pillow slip having its opposite ends open to permit a pillow therein to spread evenly on opposite sides of an individuals head when lying thereon and thereby provide a comfortable head rest throughout the length of the pillow as the position of his head is changed while asleep.
A still further object of this invention resides in the particular construction of the pillow slip.
Aside from the aforesaid objects this invention resides in the provision of a pillow slip having opposite ends thereof fully open and hemmed edges turned inwardly so as to contact the ends of a pillow inserted therein and thereby reduce the possibility of the same from shifting lengthwise in the same.
Among the many objects of this invention is the provision of a pillow slip having its opposite ends fully open so as to prevent a pillow inserted therein from packing or bulging at one end as the head of an individual resting thereon is shifted from place to place on the same.
With these and other objects in view, this invention resides in certain novel features of construction and arrange ment of elements to be hereinafter more particularly set forth in the specification, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and pointed out in the appended claim and, although this disclosure depicts my present conception of the invention, the right is reserved to resort to such departments therefrom as come within the scope of the claim.
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this application:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a pillow with the pillow slip thereon.
"ice
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view taken approximately on line 22 of Fig. 1 showing the pillow in full lines.
In the present illustration of this invention, the numeral 5 designates, in general, my new and novel pillow slip which. is formed of material usually used in manufacturing said articles and consisting of a single piece of fabric comprising an elongated seamless tubular member 6 having its opposite ends 7 folded inwardly and sewed to form hems 8 to strengthen the open ends thereof against tearing when inserting a pillow, herein indicated by the letter P, therein or by otherwise handling the same. By this construction a pillow may be inserted at either end of the slip with the greatest of ease and the absence of a longitudinal seam, always present where the conventional sewed slip is used, permits rotation of the seamless tubular slip at each insertion of the pillow to distribute the wear around the tubular slip and materially increase the useful life of the same.
Although, the pillow slip is herein shown as being formed of the usual kind of material used in manufacturing such articles, it is within the purview of this invention to construct the same from any suitable material with or without fanciful designs thereon just so the salient features of this invention can be practised.
With this invention fully described, it is manifest that a pillow slip is provided which can not only be easily and quickly slipped on a pillow but one that can be cheaply manufactured and thoroughly laundered by subjecting its inner and outer sides to the usual laundering process.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:
A pillow slip for removably covering a pillow comprising an elongated seamless tubular member fully open at both ends, said tubular member being constructed of continuous fabric material of a single thickness, and inturned hems at each open end of the pillow slip whereby a pillow may be inserted at either end of the slip and the absence of a longitudinal seam permits rotation of the seamless tubular slip at each insertion of the pillow which distributes the wear around the tubular slip.
