Description
J. B. ROHRER. GOMBINED CRIB, GHAIR, AND GOMMODE. 2,633.
Patentea M .nl il 3 N0. 27 TL Eli UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIcE.
JOHN B. ROHRER, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
COMBINED CRIB, CHAIR, AND COMMODE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 276,633, dated May 1, 1883.
Application filedOctoher 14,1882. (N0 model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, JOHN B. ROHRER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Frankford, Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Coinspecification.
Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 is aside view of the device embodying my invention, showing the arrangement of parts when used as a crib. Fig. 2 is a top view thereof. Fig. 3 is a transverse vertical section in the line as w of Fig.2, showing the grooves or channels. Fig. 4 is a side view of the device when used as a chair. Fig.- 5 is a front view thereof. Fig. 6 is a cross-section of Fig. 2 in the line y y. Fig. 7 is perspective View of the bottom rail, showing the bracket, with the pivot and the groove.
. Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
My invention has for its obj wet the construction, in combination form, of three articles of furniture in a neat, compact, and substantial manner.
Referring again to the drawings, A A represent the t'raming, of ordinary construction, which form the sides for the crib or sides and handles for the chair, as it is desired to be used.
B represents the commode or seat when the article is used as a chair.
.mode B, which in itself is of ordinary construction, is used to form the foot-board of the crib.
The two arms or brackets D D,secured to the sides of the commode B, carry pins or trunnioas d cl at their outer ends, which traverse grooves or channels E E on the inside bottom, and head-board which form the back and sides for the chair.
Pins b b, on opposite sides of the commode B, fit into recesses or sockets c 0, prepared in the ends of the sides A A. These receive the greater portion of the weight of the back when used as a chair and tend to hold all the parts steadily.
The end or head board, a, when the article is used in crib form, is held firmly perpendicular by small spring-catches h h on the ends of the sides A A, and when liberated swings on the hinges g 9 against the under side of the crib and forms the head for the back of the chair.
The grooves or channels E E are of a proper length to allow space for a mattress or cushion between the back of the chair and the rear of the commode. i
The pins d d, it will be seen, do not pass entirely through the rails or sides, A A, but into channels or grooves, as stated, and as the grooves and pins are upon theinside both are entirely hid from view. Suitable spring-catches are also used to hold the foot-board steadily when using it as a crib.
The artistic manner in which this invention can be made, the small space it occupies, and the three valuable articles of furniture it supplies make it a highly useful and ornamental article.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In the combined crib, chair, and commode, as described, the combination of the sides A A and folding head-board a with commode B, and supplemental lid or cover 1), arranged and operating substantially as specified.
2. In the combined crib, chair, and commode,
as described, the combination of the commode B and the brackets D D with the trunnions d d, and the sides A A with the grooves or chan- JOHN B. ROHRER.
