'UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE.
GEORGE S. CROSBY, OF BRIDGEPORT, CONNECTICUT.
TOY.
SBECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 276,524, dated April 24, 1883.
Application tiled August 11, 1882. (No model.)
To aLLYwhom it may concern:
Beit known that I, GEORGE S. CROSBY, a citizen of the United States of America, resid ing at Bridgeport, in the county of Fairlield and State Ot' Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toys,
` of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
My invention relates to mechanical toys, and has for its Object to provide a toy to which a rotary and rocking motion is imparted; and with these ends in view my invention consists in the details of construction and combination of elements hereinafter fully described, and then specilically designated by the claim.V
`In Order that those skilled may more fully understand the construction and operationv of my improved device, I will proceed to describe the same in detail, referring by letter to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification, in which the ligure is a view in elevation Of my improvement.
A is the body of the device, tO-Which is attached a rod, B, and suspensory hook U. D D are detachable and adjustable balance-arms, provided with weights E E.
The modus operandi of my improvement is as follows: I attach the rod B and weighted arms D D to the body A, and aflix to the free end Of said rod any suitable toy, F. I then mount the hook O upon a standard,G, adapted for the same, and by the adjustment of Athc arms D throw the center Ot' gravity thr'ough the point of suspension. When the toy F is revolved it will acquire a rocking motion, as will be readily understood.
lIl have illustrated my invention by a toy ship counterbalanced by small toy boats, since the rocking motion is especially applicable to toys Ot' this description; but l am enabled to usedtt'erent kinds of toys without departing from the spirit of my invention.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The body A, provided with hook C', adjustable balance-arms D, having toy Weights E, and rod B, with toy ship F affixed thereto, in combination with the standard G, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
v In testimony whereof I afx my signature in presence of two witnesses.
. GEORGE S. CROSBY.
