CUPPING-GLASS.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 291,588, dated January -1, 18E4.

Beit known that I, CHARLES L. MYERs, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Hamburg, in the county of Dutchess and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Cupping-Glasses, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to an improvement in mechanism for suspending and securing a burning taper in a cupping-glass for creating a vacuum, the same being adjustable, so that the taper shall have avertical position in the application of the glass when either upright, horizontal, or at any given angle. I attain this object by mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in Which- Figure 1 is a vertical perspective, and Fig.

'2 a horizontal perspective, of the glass with the apparatus carrying the burning taper in position, respectively, as in the application of the glass in these respective positions.

Similar letters refer to similar parts in the two figures.

The glass A is the same as any cuppingglass in ordinary use, in which a spring, B, or an equivalent bearing is placed and held in position by its outward pressure upon pivotpoints 0 O, entering in slight recesses in the glass. To this spring is attached a forked arm, D, so as to admit of a tube, E, to hang 0 between the prongs. Upon pivots F in this tube is carried the burning taper G. The spring B may be turned upon its bearings, and by its pressure against the glass rest at any angle at or about a horizontal position, as the 3 5 glass is applied either upright, horizontal, or

at any given angle, and the tube carrying the taper shall have a vertical position.

It is obvious, and therefore unnecessary to describe other forms of the spring or bearing 0 carrying the taper-holder, that it may be varied in form and secured within the glass and give the same relative support and adjustment to the tube E, as described.

Having thus described myinvention, What I 5 claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,

The combination, with the cupping-glass,of the pivoted taper-holder E, adjustable to the varied positions in the application of the 50 glass, constructed and operating substantially as and for the purpose described.
