Description

. EMIL WoHLEns, NEW YORK,
imi-:eroe
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Application filed Feh To all whom it may concern:
Be it known, that I, EMIL WoHLERs. ofthe city, county, and State ot' New York, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Injectors, ot' which the following is a speciiieation.
This invention has reference to that class of injectors in which a supplementary jet orejectoris used for lifting the water through the injector preparatoryto starting the same; and the inventionconsists of an injector in which the steam chamber and its valve and the Valved steam conduit or channel leading to the ejector are arranged'at one side of the body ot' the injector and the Water-supply pipe and l its valve at the opposite side ot' the same, the
steam-chamber, steam-channel for the ejector, and the Water-supply chamber being cast integral with the body of the injector. The steam-chamber is separated from the aspiration-chamber in the body ot the injector by an intermediate chamber, so as to prevent the formation of steam in the aspiration-chamber and the destruction of the vacuum. The steamchannel of the ejector extends around the body ofthe injector and terminates in a nozzle in the overflow-tube ot' the overow chamber, the overflow-channel of which extends around the other side of the injector-body.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l represents a vertical longitudinal section'of my improved injector, and Figs. 2 and 3 are vertical transverse sections of the same on lines a: fr and yy, Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
Referring to the draWings,A represents the injector-body or main casting, at the interior ot' which are arranged the steam-nozzle c, the combining-cones b b', and the discharge-tube el, all of which are arranged in line with the axis of the injector-body A and through the delivery end of the same, they being secured by means of suitable taps in properly relative position to each other.
The steam-supply conduit or chamber B is arranged at one side of the injector-body or main casting A and the Water-supply tube C at the other side of the same. The steamchamber B is provided with a valve, B', and
. destroyed by the generation of steam.

Patent No. 276,319, dated April 24, 1883.

the watensupply tube C with a Water-regulating valve, C. A
Between the steam-cha|nber B and the aspiration-chamber cof the injector is arranged an intermediate semi-annular chambenB?, which isinclosed by the end wall ot1 the body A, the wall of the aspiration-chamber, and a side wall of the steam chamber, as shown clearlyin'Fig. 1. This intermediate steamchamber, B2, extends from the valve B of the steaiuchamber B to the steam-nozzle a, and prevents thereby the direct contact of steam Withthe Wall ot' the aspirationchamber c. The latter is thereby not 'heated up by the action ot' the steam, and consequently the vacuum in the injector-body not injured or The intermediate chamber, B2, is provided with a `detachable screw-cap, a2, in line with the longitudinal axis ot' the injector-body, so that when the cap is removed 'the steam-nozzle, cones, and deliveryiube can be readily cleaned by the introduction ot a suitable cleaning device Whenever, for some reason orother, the injector should not do its Work properly.
An auxiliary valve, D, is arranged, preferably in line with the steam-valve B', at theoppositesdeot' thesteam-chamberB. Theauxiliary valve D closes a steam-cbannel D', that runs first along the injector-body A, and then around the same, at one side thereof, to anozzle, f, which is arranged at the interior of the' overoW-tube F of the overflow chamber G. The overflow-tube F communicates with the open air, and is connected Withthe overflowchamber Grat the interior of the injector-body by a valved channel,f', that extends around the injector-body at the side opposite to the steam-channel D', as shown clearly in Fig. 3. The ejector-channel D'and the channelf' that connects the overflow-chamber G with the overflow-tube F, also the steam-chamber B and the water-supply tube G, are all cast integral with the injector body A, forming one casting, as shown clearly by full black lines in The operation of the injector is the same as in other injectors which are provided with supplementary jets or ejectors. The auxiliary valve D isirst opened, so that the steam can pass through the ejector-channel D', nozzle f, and the overflow-tube F to the outside. The steam creates thereby a vacuum in the overtioW-ehamber G, and causes thereby the water to be lifted through the water-supply tube C, and to be drawn through thcombining-cones, overoW-chamber, and overiioW-channel to the overioW-tube F. As soon as Water escapes through the overflow-tube F the steam-valve B is opened and the injector begins its regular work by admitting the steam' through the intermediate chamber, B2, and steam-nozzle a, so as to act upon the. water and force it through the combining-cones and delivery-tube in the usual Well-known manner. As the steam cannot exert any injurious influence upon the vacuum in the aspiration-chamber, the injector Works instantly and with full force on the opening ot' the steam-valve, and performs its function in a very reliable and effective inanner.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Paten t 1. 1n an injector, the combination of the in- '.jector-body having a valved steam-cham ber at one side and a valved Water-supply tube at the other side thereof, with an intermediate chamber located between thewall ot' the steamchamber and the wall ot' the aspiration-chamber of the injector, so that the direct heating ofthe Wall ot' the aspiration-chamber by the steam is prevented, substantially as set forth.
2. In an injector, the combination of the injector-bodyA, having avalved steam-ch amber, B, at one side and a valved water-supply tube, O, at the other side thereof, With an intermediate chamber, B2, located between the steamchamber and the aspiration-chamber, said intermediate chamber havin g a removable screwcap in line with the steam-nozzle, combiningcones, and delivery-tube ot the injector, substantially as described.
3; In an injector, the combination, with the injector-body A, having a valved steam-chainber, B, at one side and a valved water-supply tube, U, at the other side thereof, of an ejector-valve, D, and an ejector-channel, D', leading from the steam-chamber, along the injectorbody and at one side thereof, to the ejectornozzle in the overflow-tube of the overowchamber, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
4. In an injector, the combination of the injector-body A, having a steam-chamber, B, and steam-valve B at one side thereof and a water- Supply tube, C, and water-regulatin g valve C' at the other side thereof', an ejector-valve, D, in line with the steam-valve B', an ejectorchannel, D', leading from the steam-chamber, along one side of the injector-body, to the ejector-nozzle f, and a valved overtloW-channel, f', that extends around the other side ot' the injector-body and connects the nveroW-chamber G with the overow-tube F, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
5. An injector in which the steam-chamber B, intermediate chamber, B2, ejector-channel D', watersupply tube, and the longitudinal body are made in one integral casting, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name inpresence of two subscribing witnesses.
