FERDINAND DALLAS McMmLAmo ATLANTA, GEORGIA.

BQiLEH-CLEANEB.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 783,301, dated February 21, 1905. A enian filed June 17,1904. Burial in. 213,014.

To all mlmnt 1'15 {any mite-era;

Be it known tlmt 1 .Fnnnmnxn DALLAS Mollv'IILLAN,a citizen of the United State. and :1 residcntof Atlanta, in the county of Fulton and State of Georgia, have made certain new and useful improvements in BoilerUleancl-s, of which the following is a specification.

My invention is an improvement in devices receptacles and by which to blow out any accumulations of mud or other semisolid mat-. ter from the various parts of the boiler and to make it pos iblu to reach-corners and all other points in the boiler by water or other liquid, sand, paints. dust, air, or other fluids as may be desired; and the invention consists in certain novel constructions and combinations of PRI'LHJKS @111 be hereinafter described and claimed.

'7 in the d rzurings, Figure 1 is a sectional elevation, parts broken away, of adcrice cmbodying my invention: and Fig. 2 is 21, detail section on about line 2 2 of Fig. 1.

B my invention l provide in the wall of dzawal of the desired material is universally jointed, so that the inner endor nozzle of the pipe may be girenzmy desired direct-ion. in the construction shown the wall A, which may be the wall of a boiler or other suitable receptacle, has an opening A, in which the uniu-rxallyjointvd devices operate. To the wall urroumling the opening A,l secure what for nnrrnicnce of reference 1 term the "i'rnmv-ringi;.\\*l|1ch ishcldsecurclyin place i M ii. Within the ring it baa-secured the carrier 'lhi nrrirr in shown as coluimsed of the two uniiwl Minus ii and F, the outer section lC ll 'lhg t hm-wled on ilsouter side at E to nngzggc 1h.- thrends ll of the frame-ring B, and such outer section E being rabbetcd on its inner ddeut ii and receiving the annular rib F on the Section F. such section Fharing the facei flange F. which is secured by bolts Gr to the.

non-r section E. as best shown in Fig. l of the drawing. Al. their iuncrsides the seelions E uni l of thev'zmricr :ire formed with a coni care surface (I, which is ground, turned; or otherwise brought to [it the convcxsurfncc of the brill 1).; which [its within the'carrier and" may be turned in any desired nuumer in or:- dcr to give th. proper direction n the inner end of the'pipe for introdueingor vithdiawing theliquid or fluid used-in cleaning the receptaele; lly-this constrliction the cleaning apparatus maygbe readily applied to the boiler or other receptacle. l r

The ball D has in itsouter sidea'threndcd opening I) and in its inner side a threaded openingfi, reeciring'the outer and inner sections H and H of the pine for introducing and withdrawing thematcrini.- As shown, the openings iY-and l) are inalinemcnt, and the sections H and. H maybe brought to coincide at theirme'eting ends, as will be understood from Fig. 1.-, The Section ll hus'thc nozzle end I, and the sectidnglliis'Supplicdwith a coupling J, by \rl ch the hose-pipe K may be' conpledfiisd Thishiise-pipe Kis flexible, so it will permit the manipulation of the delivery-pines by the turning of the ball in its shell or'sockct in order to properly direct the inner end of the pipe. as will be understood fnom' the dotted lines in, Fig. i. The carrier may be notched at w for engagement by a spanner-wrench or only be otherwise adapted to be turned. in adjusting the same into and out of engagement with the frameringB in the use of the invention- The mm! from the lmiler'nmy beblown out by blowing steam against the \i'alls of the boiler from this nozzle l, and mud'nnd the cleanfiing material may be witlulrnwi'i' by applying suction to the pipe K by means of an air-pump or othcrdcriee that will suck the material out through the nozzle and pipes ii and K. V i

The invention is simple eiwily applied; and will be found eilicient for Hairpin-pose for which it is designed.

Having thus described my invention. what I claim as new, and desire tosccure by Letters 95 rounding such opening and [lil'ltiktlflil at it; 100

inner side, the carrier composed of inner and outer segtions secured together, the outer section "being threaded into engqgement with the frame-ring and such outer and inner sections being curved on theizjinnerfaces vtojoriifthe hall'sooket, the hjali heid in such sockh't end herring threaded openings in its inner and oiiter ends mid' the pipe for introduoing" or withdrawing the'materiel and having sctions' threaded in theinnerand outer ends of the ball, substantiallyas and for the pixr poses setforth.

2. The combination of the wall, the framering held to the wall, the carrier composed of sections held together slnd to the frame-ring the supply and delivery pipe sections connected with said ball, substantially as set forth.

' -".53'--'Theeomhination with aidevicefor cleanzing boilers and the like, of the ball, a carrier for the ball havinga ball-sooket'receiving the ball and pipes screwed into the ball from theop posite sides thereof substantially as set forth.-

with w DALLAS mommies,
