Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SYDNEY J. MURTON, OF SEATTLE, WASHINGTON.
WASHING DEVICE.
Application filed September 9, 1915,
Be it known that Si'nxizY J. MUnToN, a subject of the King of Great Britain residing at `\`eattlc. iu the county of King and State of 'ashingtou. have invented a certain new and useful lmprovement in lVzlsliiug Devices. of which the following is a specification.
My inveution rclates to improvements in washing devices. and the object of my improvements is to provide a hollow walled receptaclc which shall he adapted to direct numerous jets of water against all portions of the surfaces of an object disposed within said receptacle wherebv such surfaces maybe subjected to the clcansing effect of the water thus impinging thereon, said water being conducted through a conduit from a source of water under pressure into the space between said hollow walls thence through numerous minute h'oles that extend through the inner surface of the receptacle to issue therefrom in the form of many jets directed in converging lines; and a further object of my 'improvements is to make such device of a form that will adapt it for the special purpose of washing ice cream scoops, ladles, spoons, and like utensils that may be disposed therein. by devices illustrated in the accompanying drawings wherein- Figure 1 is a view in Vertical mid-section of one form of a structure embodying my invention with a utensil to be washed disposed therein, which utensil is shown by a view in side elevation, and Fig. 2 is a view of parts of the same in horizontal section on broken line w, a; of Fig` 1.
Referring to the drawings, throughout which like reference numerals indicate like parts, a cast metal base 3 of circular form is provided with an upwardly extended annular flange 4 integral therewith and with an integral boss 5 which extends upwardly from the central portion of said base 3 in a position concentric with the surrounding annular 'flange 4 whereby is formed an annular recess 6.
The boss 5 is provided with a concentrically disposed passageway 7 that eXtends vertically therethrough; and screwed 'into the lower end of said passageway 7 is a waste pipe 8 that may be extended to a desired point of disposal of waste water.
Fixed in the upper end portion of the passageway 7 is a nipple 10 which is integral Specification of Letters Patent.
I accomplish these objects- Patented Apr. 11, 1916.
Serial No. 49,665.
with the convex bottom of the inner one of two members 11 and 1'2 which form the hollow wall of a cup-like receptacle. through which nipple 10 water may pass from said receptacle into the waste pipe 8.
The upper portion of the inner member 11 is formed to have an outwardly extended fiange 13I` to the outer edge of which is joined the upper end edge of the outer member 1'2, while the lower end portion of said outer member 12 is provided with a flange 11 which is disposed to surround and make a water tight joint with the periphery of the upper portion of the annular fiange 1; thus the inner member 11 and the outer member 12, together with the cast metal base 3 and its integral parts 4 and 5, form a receptacle whose surrounding wall is provided with a hollow space 15 and such receptacle is provided with an outlet passageway 7 through the central portion of its bottom through which water may escape into a waste pipe, as waste pipe 8.
The inner member 11 is perforated with many very small holes, as holes 16, which extend from the space 15 (between the members 11 and 12) into the interior of the receptacle, said holes 16 being evenly distributed throughout the extent of the cylindrical portion of said member 11 and throughout much of the concavto-convex bottom portion thereof, but for convenience of drawing I have shown only a few of such holes 16.
Extending through the annular flange 4 at opposite points therein are two pipes 17 and 18, respectively, one of which may be extended to a source of cold water under pressure, while the other may be extended to a source of hot water under pressure, whereby such Water may fiow under pressure to find its way into the space 15 between the members 11 and 12, thencethrough the small holes 16 in the form of numerous jets to impinge against the surfaces of an object that may be placed within the receptacle, as, for instance, an ice cream scoop 19, which rests upon a grating or perforated disk 20 that is supported by an annular shoulder 21 formed in the member 11 near its bottom end and above the entrance to the passageway through the nipple 10, which perforated disk 20 serves to prevent said scoop 19 from obstructing said entrance to said passage- \Vay.
The flow of water through the ppes 17 and 18 may be Controlled by hand operated valves 22 and 23 re.\'peeti\'el thns tu uSe either 'll water r hut water or :l lnixture nf mld water z|nl-ht water in zunuunts us (lesired. l`ner sume enmlitiuns of use it Inny be desired tu use n|`\' 'll water ur only hut water. in which euse une of the pipes 17 ur 15 Inny be li.^|en 'el with :md the`hule intn \\'hieh it is serewed may be closed with :i plug in ;i well known nulnner.
