NUTMEG-GRATER.

SPECFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 274,073, dated March 13, 1883.

\ Y To all whom 'it may concern:

Be it known that we, GEORGE `W1LsoN and EUGENE B. LOBAGK, of Vinton, in the county of Benton and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and usefullmprovements in Nutmeg-Graters; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, Whichwill enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the sanne, reference beingV had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, and in Which- Figure l is" a front view of our improved nutmeg-graten Fig. 2 is a top view of the same, and Fig. 3 is a vertical section through the same on line a: a', Fig. 2.

Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding'p'arts in all the figures.

Our invention has relation to nutmeg-graters; and it consists in the improved construction and combination of parts of the same, as hereinafter more fully shown and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings, the letter A represents the casing, `which is made of sheet metal, and maybe square or any other desirable shape.

Upon a shaft, B, turning in bearings O C in the sides of the case, and having a crank, D, is mounted the disk-shaped grater E.

Through asleeve, F, in oueside of the box, passes a tube, G, having its end serrated, so as to hold the nutmeg H, While a spiral spring, I;the one end ofwhch is fastened to the sleeve F and the other end to the inner end of the tube G, serves topress the tube and the nutmeg against the roughened face of the grating-disk.

nutmeg or any foreign bodies, which by accident may have gotinside, from falling through. The top part ot' the box is provided with a hingedcover, M, while the bottom is open, allowing the grated nutmeg to fallout.

Having thus described our invention, we claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States- The nutmeg-grater consisting of the casing A, having hinged lid M and sleeve F, shaft B, having crank D and disk-shaped grater E, tube G, having its inner end serrated and its outer end provided with a handle, J, spiral spring I, box K, and perforated concave bottom L, all constructed and combined to operate substantially as shown and set forth.
