STOVE-B RACKET.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 273,653, dated March 6, 1883.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOHN H. WHIssEMoRE,

acitizen of the United States, residing at Mansfield, in the county of Richland and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stove-Brackets and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention,such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

The invention relates to an improvement in stove-brackets of the kind which are secured to the stove and have movable shelves upon which dishes and other articles for use on or about the stove may be placed.

The exact nature of the invention, with its advantages and objects, will be pointed out in the detailed description hereinafter presented, referencebeing had to the accompanying drawings, in which'- Figure 1 is a side elevation of a device embodying the elements of the invention. Fig. 2 is a top view of one of the shelves.

Referring to the accompanying drawings,A denotes avertical post, the lower end of which is secured in the upper portion of the clamping-frame B by a screw-thread or otherwise, so as to be incapable ofbecoming detached therefrom under ordinary conditions.

Upon the vertical post A are secured the swinging shelves 0, which shelves consist of suitably-arranged horizontal frames having upon one edge a sleeve which passes over the rod or post A and snugly encompassing the same. Thepeculiarconfigurationot'theshelves O, I propose to make, if I so elect, the subject of a design patent, and hence I reserve my right so to do. The sleeve D, connected to or forming a part of the upper shelf 0, has a contracted upper portion, forming an annular shoulder, a, within its central aperture, which shoulder, when the shelf is placed upon the rod or post A, comes in contact with the upper edges of the same, and causes the shelf tg be supported in a horizontal position at the upper extremity of the rod. The sleeves D are greater in depth than the shelves O, whereby the shelves 0 will be prevented from inclining downward to any appreciable extent, and their swinging movement wiil be regular and without jarring the articles upon them. It will readily be conceived that were the sleeves slight in depth they would be incapable of supporting the shelves in a truly horizontal position, unless additional means for securing them were provided. In most cases, on ordinary household stoves,two shelves will probably be sufticient to meet all the requirements, but in case others are needed they may be placed upon the post A without inconvenience. The lower shelf 0 may be vertically adjusted on the post A, and be sustained in any desired position by simply placing the article to be held upon it after the said position has been attained. The efi'eut of the weight upon the shelf O is to press the lower inner and upper outer edges of the sleeve D against the opposite sides of the rod A, whereby the shelf will be clamped in position. The weight of the outer portions of the shelf U is usually sufficient to cause the opposite sides of the shelf 0 to clamp the post A sufficiently to sustain it (the shelf) in position. The shelf 0, capable of adjustment as described, is of great utility, since it will be adapted to receive articles varying in height without loss of time.

The clamping-frame B is of peculiar con noted that the form of the neck of the clamp B is specially adapted to pass over the inclined edges of the top of the stove, and sustain the post or rod A in a vertical position.
