(Cl. 224-5) This invention relates to a dual receptacle unit adapted for use in connection with various operations performed on ladies hair and has for its primary object to provide a pair of receptacles or containers demountably supported one on each shoulder for holding hair clips or pins in positions convenient to the operator who is engaged, for example, in setting the hair.

Another object of the invention is to provide a dual receptacle or container structure wherein the individual trays or receptacles may be utilized for holding liquids such as a waving solution or bleach.

A further object of the invention is to provide a dual receptacle structure wherein the individual receptacles or containers are so constructed that each will conformably t the upper portion of a shoulder and wherein an adjustable connecting means is provided between the containers which may be adjusted to engage across the back to effectively maintain the containers properly positioned on the shoulders.

Various other objects and advantages of the invention will hereinafter become more fully apparent from the following description of the drawing, illustrating a presently preferred embodiment thereof, and wherein:

Figure 1 is a top plan view of the invention;

Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view thereof on an enlarged scale taken transversely through the two containers substantially along a plane as indicated by the line 2-2 of Figure l;

Figure 3 is an enlarged cross sectional view taken longitudinally through one of the containers substantially along a plane as indicated by the line 3 3 of Figure l, and

Figure 4 is an enlarged fragmentary vertical sectional view taken substantially along a plane as indicated by the line 4-4 of Figure l.

Referring more specifically to the drawing, the dual container or receptacle structure in its entirety and comprising the invention is designated generally 5 and includes two corresponding containers, receptacles or trays, designated generally 6 and 7, and a connecting element 8 extending between and connecting said containers in spaced apart relationship.

Each container or tray 6 and 7 is of elongated construction and includes a bottom 9 having a longitudinally extending upwardly bowed portion 10 extending to points adjacent the two end walls 11 and 12 of said container` The concavely arced underside of the upwardly bowed portion 10 preferably has a strip of cushioning material 16, such as felt, secured thereto. The two side walls 13 and 14 extend upwardly only from the end portions and intermediate portion of the bottom so that the container is provided with a transverse concavely arced recess in the underside thereof which is shaped to conformably fit on a persons shoulder. The end walls 11 and 12 and side walls 13 and 14 extend upwardly to the same level and are turned outwardly and back upon themselves to provide a rolled bead or rim 15 extending completely around the container or tray. The trays or containers 6 and 7 are preferably formed of plastic but may be formed of any other suitable material such as aluminum, fiber, molded rubber or other lightweight material.

The connecting element 8 preferably comprises an elongated tube but may be of solid construction and is provided at each end thereof with an enlargement or head 17 having a substantially straight and flat edge portion 18. Each head 17 is provided with an outwardly opening threaded recess 19 which is disposed in registration with an opening 20 of the wall 13 of either the container 6 or 7 when the edge 18 is bearing against the bottom edge of a portion of the beading 15. A headed screw fastening 21 extends outwardly through and is turnably disposed in the opening 20 and threadedly engages the recess 19. The two screws 21 secure the two heads 17 of the connecting element 8 against the outer sides of the container walls 13 and said heads 17 are prevented from turning relatively to the containers 6 and 7 by engagement of their edge portions 18 with the beadings or rims 15. The intermediate tubular or rod portion 22 of the connecting element 8 which extends between the heads 17 is formed of a deformable material such as copper, plastic or steel so that the rod or tube 22 can be bent as illustrated in the drawing. Each head 17 has an integral socket 23 on its inner side. The ends of the tube or rod portion 22 lit in the sockets 23 and are secured therein in any suitable manner as by soldering.

The heads 17 are secured to the inner adjacent side walls 13 of the containers 6 and 7 near the rear end walls 11. With the bottom portions 10 positioned to rest upon the shoulders, as illustrated in Figures 2 and 3, the rod or tube 22 is bent downwardly and either inwardly or outwardly to conformably lit against the back, preferably slightly below the level of the shoulders, as seen in Figures 2 and 3, to maintain the containers or trays 6 and 7 in their applied positions of Figures 2 and 3. The containers or trays may be used for holding hairpins or clips While an operator is engaged in setting the hair and it will be readily apparent that the pins or clips, not shown, will be conveniently available to the operator while standing on either side of the person, on whose shoulders the containers are supported. Thus, the person whose hair is being waved will be relieved from assisting the operator by holding the hair clips or pins. Likewise, the containers 6 and 7 may be utilized for holding liquids such as a bleach or wave solution andin positions readily convenient to the operator, as previously pointed out. The fabric strips 16 not only cushion the engagement of the trays or containers with the shoulders but additionally provide a frictional engagement between the shoulders and containers to prevent the containers from slipping relatively to the shoulders either forwardly or rearwardly.

Various modifications and changes are contemplated and may obviously be resorted to, without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as hereinafter defined by the appended claims.

I claim as my invention:

l. A dual container structure of the character described comprising a pair of corresponding elongated open top containers each provided with an upwardly bowed longitudinally extending bottom portion defining a transverse shoulder engaging recess, a connecting member extending between and connecting said containers adjacent corresponding rear ends thereof, said connecting member being adapted to bear against the upper portion of a persons back for maintaining the containers positioned on the shoulders and with the recessed bottom portions thereof conformably fitting over the shoulders, said connecting member comprising an elongated deformable element adapted to be bent to engage across the back beneath and adjacent the level of the shoulders and having non-deformable head portions at the ends thereof provided with outwardly opening threaded recesses, said heads engaging against adjacently disposed side walls of the containers, and fastening elements extending through said container side Walls and threadedly secured in the head recesses for anchoring the connecting member to the containers.

A dual container structure as in claim 1, said deformable element being of circular cross section, said containers having outwardly rolled rims, said heads having flat substantially straight edge portions disposed in engagement with portions of said rims to prevent rotation of the heads relatively to said fastenings and containers.

A dual container structure of the character described comprising a pair of corresponding elongated open top containers each provided with au upwardly bowed longitudinally extending bottom portion defining a transverse shoulder engaging recess, a connecting member extending between and connecting said containers adjacent corresponding rear ends thereof, said connecting member being adapted to bear against tne upper portion of a persons back for maintaining the containers positioned on the shoulders and with the recessed bottom portions thereof conformably fitting over the shoulders, each of said containers including relatively deep end portions and a relatively shallow intermediate portion.
