Description
L. ROME Aug. 21, 1951 DISPOSABLE TISSUE CONTAINER AND SUPPORT THEREFOR Filed Sept. 12, 1949 INVENTOR.
Anomqs Louis Home Patented Aug. 21, 1951 DISPOSABLE TISSUE CONTAINER AND SUPPORT THEREFOR Louis Rome, Rutland, Vt. Application September 12, 1949, Serial No. 115,277
1 Claim.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements and structural refinements in containers for disposable tissues, and the principal object of the invention is to provide a container of this type which is particularly adapted for removable attachment to sun visor panels of automobiles, or other similar supporting members.
This object is achieved by the provision of the instant container which has an open bottom and which is adapted for positioning on the supporting panel so that the latter, in effect, constitutes a bottom for the container, an important feature of the invention residing in the provision of means for removably retaining the container on its support.
Some of the advantages of the invention reside in its simplicity of construction, in its pleasing appearance, in its convenient operation, and in its adaptability to economical manufacture.
With the above more important objects and features in view, and such other objects and features as may become apparent as this specification proceeds, the invention consists essentially of the arrangement and construction of parts as illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure l is a perspective view of the invention in situ on its supporting panel, the latter being shown by phantom lines;
Figure 2 is an underside plan view of the invention per se;
Figure 3 is a cross-sectional view, taken substantially in the plane of the line 3-3 in Figure l, but with the supporting panel shown in solid lines;
Figure 4 is a cross-sectional view, taken substantially in the plane of the line 4-4 in Figure 2, and
Figure 5 is a cross-sectional view, taken substantially in the plane of the line 5-5 in Figure 1.
Like characters of reference are employed to designate like parts in the specification and throughout the several views.
Referring now to the accompanying drawings in detail, the invention consists of a disposable tissue container designated generally by the reference character II], this being adapted to accommodate a package of disposable tissues indicated at [2 and including a top wall l4, pairs of side walls l6, I8 and having an open bottom as indicated at 2|].
The top wall 14' of the container is provided with a suitable dispensing opening 22 whereby the tissues may be readily withdrawn, and the entire container is positionable upon a suitable supporting panel, such as for example, a sun visor 24 of an automobile.
In this manner, the panel 24, in effect, constitutes a bottom of the container It, so that by simply removing the container from the panel, the package I 2 may be quickly and easily replaced when the contents thereof are exhausted.
However, means are provided for removably retaining the container on the panel, these means involving the provision of a substantially U- shaped, resilient clip 26, the free end portions of which are inturned and hook-shaped as shown at 28. These hook-shaped portions are frictionally held in suitable pockets 30 provided on the inner surface of one of the side Walls 18 of the container while the bight portion of the clip 26 is angulated away from the container, as indicated at 32.
Accordingly, when the container I0 is positioned on the upper surface 34 of the panel 2 the clip 26 will be frictionally engaged with the lower surface 36 of the panel, whereby the entire container will be removably secured in position. Needless to say, the angulated bight portion. 34 of the clip 26 will facilitate application of the container and clip to the panel, as will be clearly apparent.
It is to be also noted that if the container is removed from the panel 24, the clip 2t will engage the bottom 38 of the package I '2 to retain the latter in the container. However, the package may be readily removed from the container by simply bending the resilient clip outwardly.
It is believed that the advantages and use of the invention will be readily understood from the foregoing disclosure and accordingly, further description thereof at this point is deemed unnecessary.
While in the foregoing there has been shown and described the preferred embodiment of this invention it is to be understood that minor changes in the details of construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
The combination of a supporting panel, a container having an open bottom positioned on said panel whereby the latter constitutes a bottom for the container, a package of disposable tissues positioned in said container, said container including a top wall provided with a dispensing opening for said tissues, a resilient clip provided on said container and frictionally engaging said panel for removably retaining the container in position thereon, said container clip having sub- UNITED STATES PATENTS stantially U-shaped end portions, and said con- Number Name Date tainer being formed with pockets having inwardly 1,949,165 Krieger 27 1934 extending and converging wall portions adapted 1,974,776 Hagel Sept 1934 to substantially overlie said U-shaped end por- 5 235 75 Fourmer Man 13 1941 tions when positioned therein. 2,278,011 Murdock Mar. 1942 LOUIS ROME- 2,369,364 Mayer Feb. 13, 1945 a 2,448,819 Mitchell Sept..7, 1948 REFERENCES CITED 2454;864.
