JOSEPH BISSINGER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
BRACELET-FASTENING.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 27,264, dated February 28, 1860.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH BIssINGER, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Bracelet; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making part of this speciiication, in which- Figure 1, is a longitudinal section of the whole bracelet, Fig. 2, a section of the bracelet fastening, when the bracelet is opened, Fig. 3 a section of the bracelet fastening when the same is closed and locked. Figs. 2 and 3 are drawn on an enlarged scale.
The same letters of reference denote the same parts in all the figures.
The nature of my invention consists in combining a screw with the usual spring, latch, or catch of the bracelet for the purpose of locking the said bracelet, after it being closed, in such a manner that a pressure on the spring or latch will not cause an opening of the same.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
In the annexed drawing n represents the spring or latch, generally employed for the purpose of closing and opening the bracelet. A pressure on the said spring, whether applied accidentally, or not, will cause the said spring to assume its original position and thereby to open the bracelet. To prevent this, I have formed the outer end of the spring into a strong plate 0 which forms the nut for the screw e. After the bracelet is closed in the usual manner, the screw e is to be turned downward, thereby the spring n is forced upward into the catch of the other part of the bracelet and is firmly held therein, as shown in Fig. 3. IVhen in this position, no mere pressure on the spring or on the screw will be sufficient, to unlock the bracelet. In order to unlock it, I turn first the screw upward and I then press the same down when the bracelet will open in the usual manner. This improvement is also tpplicable to the locking of chains, or neckaces.
The usefulness of this improvement consists in preventing the frequently occurring loss of bracelets or necklaces by accidental pressure on the spring.
Vhat I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- The screw e in combination with the spring, latch, or catch n for the purpose of preventing an accidental opening of the bracelet or necklace in the manner substantially as described.
