BED-BLANKET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 271,461, dated January 30, 1883.
Application filed December 30, 1882. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOHN HOLLAND, of Limerick, in the county of York and State of Maine, have invented certain Improvements in BedBlankets, of which the following,r is a l'ull, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making' part of thisspecitieation, in Which- Figure l represents a double bed-blanket of my improved manufacture spread open. Fig. 2 represents a single bed-blanket with my irnprovements applied thereto. y
1n Fig. 1 of said drawings, A represents a bed-blanket of such length that when folded on the dotted linezvit will form a double blanket. The two upper'or top edges of the t'olded blanket are each covered with a binding, c, and located a short distance therefrom is an embroidered border, b, of flowers extending transversely therewithbeing produced thereon preferably by an embroidering-machine-the needle of which carries the silk of the required color through from one side ofthe blanket to the other. The embroidered border may, however, be produced by hand-sewing;
or the border may be simply stamped on one or both sides. A braid may also be stitched on the surface or outside ot' the blanket over a patterny previously delineated thereon, and
a border may be produced by stitching a pattern of any desired form previously cut from astrip ot' silk, velvet, woolen, or other suitable material.
The border may be composed of figures of iiowers, Vines, birds, animals, portraits ofindividuals, or other representations.
The blanket shown in Fig. 2, being,` single, requires ,but one border b near its. top or upper edge.
I claim- As a new article of manufacture, a single or 4double bedblanket provided at or near its upper edge or edges with an ornamental design, constituting a border therefor, substantially as described.
