IMPROVEMENT IN BOOKS FOR CARRYING FISHING-FLIES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 197,935, dated December 11, 1877; `application filed August 27, 1877. I
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, H. H. HoLT, of Kalama, in the county of Gowlitz, Washington Territory, have invented anew and useful Improvement in Fly-Books; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, making part of this specication.,
The object ofthis invention is .to supply fishermen with a means ofcarrying and preare made of oil paste-board or other suitable material, 'and have a raised border around each page, so as to form a recess, in which the flies may beplaced, and not press upon or come in contact with one another. Some of the leaves have pockets formed on them for the convenience of carrying` needles, thread,
hooks and el astics, the snoo ds are kept straight, all as hereinafter described.
l In the annexed drawing the figures are perspective views.
A is the inside of one of the covers,to which isatt-ached a series of small pockets. B B B.- The inside of the other cover is provided with one or more larger pockets to hold leaders. On page C, E E are small hooks, fastened to the top edge of the leaf over which the fishhook is placed. At the lower edge are similar hooks, El El, to which a rubber band or i ring is attached, each of which has a small hook, E2, similar to E and El, over which the loop made in the snood is caught. The object of this feature is that the tension produced bythe elastic band E E will keep the snoods always straight, and thus prevent them from twisting, as they always do when carried in the ordinary pocket. -F is a metallic strip, that passes across the leaves of the book Aand keeps the elastic bands in position when not attached to the snoods. It is in the use of this strip that my iiy-book is distinguished from any heretofore known, in which provision has been made for keeping the snood straight, as herein suggested. The strip holds` the snoods in place when detached. from the hooks, and prevents their falling or becoming l entangled with the others.
What I claim, andy desire to secure by Let- HENRY H. HOLT.
