H. W. MILLER July 5, 1955 TOILETRY KIT Filed Jan. 14, 1952 INVENTOR.
BY flew! f7Q/w A r rozue Y United States Patent TOILETRY KIT Homer Wesley Miller, Breckenridge, Tex.
Application January 14, 1952, Serial No. 266,384
2 Claims. (Cl. 312-206) This invention relates to toiletry kits, and the like, and it has particular reference to a compact kit especially designed for containing such toiletry items as dentifrices, tooth brushes, shaving equipment, and the like, and its principal object resides in the provision of a compact casing, or cabinet which can be made portable and yet have means thereon for removably supporting the same in a stationary location, as in a typical bathroom for convenient storage of such equipment as may be required by difierent members of the family.
An object of the invention is that of providing an economical cabinet for containing the usual tooth brush and dentifrice articles so that proper sanitation can be maintained for such items, yet providing ready and convenient access thereto by every member of the household, afiording means for containing separate tooth brushes, and other items, in a clean and aerated condition at all times.
Broadly, the invention contemplates the provision of a container of the character described which may readily be transported as desired, as by packing the device in the luggage in traveling, or supported on a stationary bracket.
While the foregoing objects are paramount, other and lesser objects will become paramount as the description proceeds, taken in connection with the appended drawings wherein:
Figure 1 is a transverse sectional view of the invention, on lines 11 of Figure 2, showing the removable tray and the partitioned compartment therebeneath.
Figure 2 is a front elevational view of the invention, a portion being cut away to illustrate one of the end recesses for receiving the hinged container receptacles.
Figure 3 is a plan view of the invention, with the cover removed, showing the tray and hinged container receptacles at each end, and showing the tray partially cut away to show one of the end recesses.
Figure 4 is an end elevational view of the device illustrating a mounting therefor.
Figure 5 is a rear elevational view of the invention showing the attaching device for the mounting bracket shown in transverse section.
Figure 6 is a perspective illustration of a modified form of the casing, and illustrating a pair of tooth brushes in dotted lines, and
Figure 7 illustrates, in perspective, the same cabinet shown in Figure 6 with a modified tray in which shaving equipment is arranged in the tray and illustrated in dotted lines.
The invention comprises a casing 10 which, in its simplest form, is substantially rectangular, being of greater length than the breadth, and has longitudinal and transverse partitions 11 and 12 therein defining a plurality of compartments 13, 14, 15 and 16 which are covered by a removable tray 17 supported on the upper edges of the partitions and on webs 18 formed in the corners of the casing 10. It is desirable that the casing 10 be formed of plastic material, which is more economical, but it is apparent that other materials may be used with equal 2,712,487 Patented July 5, 1955 satisfaction insofar as durability and ornamental attraction is concerned.
It is desirable to attach to the casing 10 one or more container receptacles 19 which can be arranged at either or both ends, as shown in Figures 2 and 3, and these members can be hinged to the casing 10, as illustrated in Figure 2, by arranging pins 20 through cars 21 formed on the members 19 which extend into thickened portions 22 of the casing 10 at each end thereof, as shown in Figures 2 and 3. The receptacles 19 can be hinged upwardly into conforming recesses 23 in the ends of the casing 10, as apparent in Figure 4. Obviously, however, the receptacles 19 can be formed integrally with the casing 10, if desired, or entirely omitted.- The device is more readily portable by providing foldable receptacles 19 to render the assembly more compact.
The casing 10 is removably supported on a wall bracket 24 which has a flange 25 through which it can be attached to a wall 26 by suitable means. The bracket 24 has a tapered inner flange 27 which is adapted to be received in a socket 28 formed on the rear wall 29 of the casing 10, as shown in Figures 4 and 5. By this arrangement the casing 10 can be easily removed from its mounting bracket 24 as desired.
A hinged cover 30 is provided for the casing 10 which is sufiiciently copious to house such items as tooth brush heads 31, tubes 32 containing dentifrices or shaving cream, and other articles arranged on the tray 17 which is formed with a recess 33, concave in transverse section, as shown in Figure 1, and a plurality of slotted apertures 34 to receive the handles of tooth brushes 31, shown in dotted lines in Figure 6. The apertures 34 are spaced along one side of the recess 33, in the manner illustrated in Figures 3 and 6.
The tray 17 may be modified in many ways, however, so that the invention can be employed for a variety of uses with a minimum of changes in form. In Figure 7, for example, the tray 17 has a recess 35, similar to the recess 33, and a plurality or different size and shaped openings 36, 37 and 38 to receive a shaving brush 39 and a razor 40, both shown in dotted lines in Figure 7, and a slot through which used razor blades can be dropped into one of the compartments therebelow.
It is contemplated that the bottom 41 of the casing 10 be provided with a plurality of perforations 42 through which air can circulate upwardly through the casing 10 about the articles on the tray 17, passing through the apertures 34 and the openings 36, 37 and 38. Therefore, while the hinged cover 30 protects the articles stored in the casing 10 on the tray 17, such as the brushes 31 and 39, they will be properly aerated at all times to prevent spoilage from moisture, and the like.
Manifestly, the structure herein shown and described is capable of certain changes and modifications in structural details Without departing from the spirit and intent of the invention or the scope of the appended claims.
What is claimed is:
1. In a portable toilet kit having means thereon for removably supporting the same on a wall bracket, the combination comprising a casing having a recess formed in each end, a circular receptacle hinged to a wall of each of said recesses and capable of being folded into a removable tray supported in the top of said casing and having a transversely concave recess formed longitudinally thereof, a plurality of slotted spaced apertures arranged along said tray on one side of said recess, and a hinged cover for said casing and said tray.
2. In a portable kit for tooth brushes and dentifrices,
in combination with a cabinet having means thereon for supporting the same on a wall bracket, a recess formed in each end of said cabinet capable of receiving a receptacle hinged thereto when the latter are folded thereinto, an annular container receptacle hinged to a Wall of each of said recesses and adapted to be folded thereinto, a
tray. removably supported in the top of saidcabinet and having a trough formed longitudinally thereof providing 5 a receptacle for a dentifrice; a plurality of spaced apertures in said tray in association with said trough, and a hinged cover for said cabinet and said trough.
