4 Claims. (Cl. 128-288) This invention relates to plastic baby pants and more specifically provides a combination type pants wherein there is provided the conventional bloomer type and also the snap-on type wherein the pants may be quickly and easily positioned on a baby.

An object of this invention is to provide plastic baby pants which may be used as diaper covers and are simple in construction, easy to use, well adapted for their intended purposes and relatively inexpensive to manufacture.

A further object of this invention is to provide plastic baby pants which may be utilized as a conventional type or the snap-on type wherein a double thickness of plastic is provided for more eflicient use.

These together with other objects and advantages which will become subsequently apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:

Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the plastic baby pants of the present invention in use as the bloomer type wherein a double thickness is provided in front of the baby;

Figure 2 is a detailed vertical section taken substantially along section line 22 of Figure 1 showing the structural details of the plastic baby pants;

Figure 3 is a detailed perspective view showing the plastic baby pants utilized as a snap-on type showing the relationship of the various elements thereof;

Figure 4 is a vertical section similar to Figure 2 showing the pants as utilized in Figure 3;

Figure 5 is a detailed section showing the relationship of the snap elements when utilized as a snap-on type; and

Figure 6 is a perspective view showing the baby plastic pants in extended form.

Referring now specifically to the drawings, it will be seen that the numeral 10 generally designates the plastic baby pants of the present invention for positioning around a baby 12 having the usual diaper 14 thereon. As illustrated in Figure 6, the plastic baby pants of the present invention includes a rear panel 16, a forward panel 18, a connecting portion connecting the bottoms of the rear panel 16 and the front panel 18, a pair of elastic rimmed openings 22 for receiving the legs and a waist opening 24 having elastic therein for gripping the waist of the baby 12. The side edges of the back panel 16 and the front panel 18 are joined together by suitable seams 26 that may be secured by any conventional means. A plurality of snap fasteners are provided with the male portions of the snap fasteners 28 secured to the seam 26 that may be pivoted in relation to the

An additional flap or panel 30 is secured to the connecting portion 20 and extends outwardly therefrom and includes atent arcuate elasticized leg portions 32 and side edges 34 having a plurality of female portions 36 of snap fasteners for cooperation with the male portions 28 of the snap fasteners. The outer edge of the flap or panel 30 is provided with an elastic portion 38 similar to the elastic 24 in the waist opening.

As illustrated in Figures 1 and 2, the baby pants 10 are positioned over the baby 12 with the legs of the baby in the leg openings 22 and the flap 30 positioned in front of the baby 12 by utilizing the

28 and 36, thereby providing a double plastic thickness in the front portion of the baby for assuring adequate protection.

As specifically illustrated in Figures 3 and 4, the

28 and 36 thereby providing an easily and quickly assembled pants 10 wherein the

double thickness

16 and 18 is positioned to the rear of the child 12 for providing adequate protection and an adequate diaper cover. It will be seen that the pants 19 may be utilized in either manner and the device is readily placed on the baby and provides adequate protection as a diaper cover. The device may be constructed of readily obtainable plastic material and the elastic portion may be constructed of any suitable elastic thereby rendering the device relatively inexpensive to manufacture and well adapted for use as baby pants inasmuch as the plastic is easily and readily cleaned for reuse when necessary.

From the foregoing, the construction and operation of the device will be readily understood and further explanation is believed to be unnecessary. However, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the appended claims.

What is claimed as new is as follows:

1. A pair of baby pants comprising three panel members secured together at their lower ends, an adjacent two of said panels being joined along their side edges, leg openings in the joined panels, the third of said panels having side edges detachably secured to the joined side edges of the said adjacent panels and leg notches in said third panel, said upper ends of said panels forming waist portions for selectively positioning around the waist of a baby.

2. The structure as defined in claim 1 wherein said adjacent panels are positioned on one side of a baby and the third panel is disposed on the other side of a baby with the side edges secured to the joined edges of the adjacent panels and the legs of the baby positioned in the leg notches.

3. The structure as defined in claim 1 wherein said adjacent panels are moved over the legs of a baby with the legs positioned in the leg openings with the third panel forming a double thickness on one side of a baby.

4. The structure as defined in claim 1 wherein said side edges of the third panel and the joined side edges of the adjacent panels are provided with complemental snap fasteners, said panels being constructed of plastic material with elastic upper edges, leg openings and leg notches.
