Description
April 12, 1955 v. MAURO 2,705,957
SANITARY PANTY Filed July 8, 1953 y VIRGINIA MAURO United States Patent SANITARY PANTY Virginia Mauro, Brooklyn, N. Y.
Application July 8, 1953, Serial No. 366,803
7 Claims. (Cl. 128--288) This invention relates to new and useful improvements in a ladys undergarment.
A principal object of the present invention is to provide a new and improved panty for a lady with an openable crotch portion for detachably supporting a sanitary napkin.
Another object of the invention is to provide a ladys panty with an openable crotch portion having a detachable waterproof lining.
A further object of the invention is to provide a ladys panty with an openable crotch portion having means in common for detachably fastening a waterproof lining and a sanitary napkin thereto.
Yet another object of the invention is to construct a ladys undergarment which embodies the various features pointed out above and which is exceptionally simple and may be manufactured and sold at a low cost.
It is further proposed to construct a lady undergarment of this character which is simple in construction and which can be manufactured and sold at a reasonable cost.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
In the accompanying drawings forming a material part of this disclosure:
Fig. l is a front elevational View of a ladys undergarment embodying one form of the invention.
Fig. 2 is a similar View but showing the crotch portion in open extended position.
Fig. 3 is an elevational view of the crotch portion extended.
Fig. 4 is a front elevational view of the waterproof sheet used with the crotch portion.
Fig. 5 is a side elevational view of Fig. 2 shown partly in section.
Fig. 6 is a similar view to Fig. 3 showing a modification of the invention.
Fig. 7 is a vertical sectional view taken on the line 7-7 of Fig. 6.
Fig. 8 is a similar view to Fig. 3 showing another modification of the invention.
Fig. 9 is a vertical sectional view taken on the line 99 of Fig. 8.
The ladys undergarment made in accordance with the first form of the invention shown in Figs. 1 to 5, inclusive, comprises a body portion 10 including a front panel 11 and a rear panel 12 for covering the lower body and thighs of the wearer. The body portion is formed with a crotch portion 13 formed integrally with the rear panel 12 and adapted to be detachably fastened to the front panel 11 by stud snap fastener elements 14 on the inner surface of the lower end thereof cooperating with socket snap fastener elements 15 on the outer surface of the end of the crotch portion.
A pair of spaced slots 16 and 17 is provided in the crotch portion adjacent the rear panel 12 thereby forming a loop 18 therebetween, and a similar pair of spaced slots 19 and 20 is provided adjacent the free end of the crotch portion forming a loop 21 therebetween. A sheet 22 of waterproof material is detachably supported on the inner surface of the crotch portion, said sheet being formed with openings 23 adjacent its ends of suflicient size to receive the loops 18 and 21 when projected therethrough.
A sanitary napkin 24 is positioned along the exposed surface of the waterproof sheet 22 with its ends 25 inserted through the projected loops 18 and 21 for interlocking the sheet and napkin to the crotch portion.
The modified form of the invention illustrated in Figs. 6 and 7 is very similar to the prior form, distinguishing merely in the provision of means for anchoring the ends of the sanitary napkin 24 to the crotch portion 13. More particularly, a rectangular strip 26 of fabric is sccured to the inner surface of the crotch portion intermediate the pairs of slots by a row of stitching 27 leaving the strip unattached on either side thereof to form attaching tabs 28 and 29. In use, the ends 25' of the napkin 24' are bent over and inserted through the loops 18' and 21' and passed inwardly toward each other and secured to the tabs 28 and 29 by fastening members such as pins 30.
In all other respects, the form of invention shown in Figs. 6 and 7 is similar to the form shown in Fig. 1 and similar reference numerals are used to indicate similar parts.
It will be understood that the ends 25' of the napkin 24' may be fastened together by tying or in any other suitable manner without the use of the tabs 28 or 29.
In Figs. 8 and 9 spaced tabs 31 and 32 are shown to be stitched at 33 and 34 respectively to the crotch portion 13" of the garment. In all other respects this form of the invention is similar to the form shown in Fig. l to 4 and the corresponding parts may be recognized by similar reference numerals with double prime added. In this form of the invention the free ends 25 of the sanitary napkin 24" are shown to pass through the loops of straps 31 and 32 and they are pinned together by a suitable safety pin 35.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise constructions herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:
