1 Claim. (Cl. 2-161) This invention relates to glove construction, and particularly to gloves used by attendants in feeding and smoothing wide sheet material as it is being rolled onto spools for shipment.

The primary object of the invention is to reinforce the palm and fingers of the glove against wear, the reinforcement being so constructed and arranged that bulkiness will be avoided at the linger tips, which would impair the usefulness of the glove by the attendant in guiding the material to the roll.

Another important object of the invention is to provide a glove of this character wherein the reinforcing lining thereof will be loose at the palm and lingers so that the glove will readily conform to the shape of the hand when the hand is bent in handling the material.

A still further object of the invention is to secure the reinforcing lining in such a way that there are no threads exposed to wear.

With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the claim, it being understood that changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of the invention as claimed.

Referring to the drawing:

Figure 1 is a view of a glove equipped with a lining constructed in accordance with the invention turned inside out.

Fig. 3 is a sectional View taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. l showing lthe gloves and lining prior to the turning of the glove right side out.

Fig. 4 is a longitudinal sectional view through the completed glove.

Referring to the drawing in detail, a glove constructed preferably of leather, is indicated generally by the reference character 5, the glove comprising the usual thumb 6 and lingers 7. The protecting lining, forming the essence of the present invention, is constructed preferably of fabric material, the lining being indicated generally by the reference character 8. The lining includes fingers 9 and a thumb 10 shaped to conform to the general shape of the thumb and fingers of the glove in which the lining is held. The fabric liningis secured to the glove by lines of stitching 11 that secure the edgespf the finger and thumb of the glove together, the lining being secured along the wrist to the wrist of the glove by means 2,705,327 Patented Apr. 5, 1955 ICC of the line of stitching 12. Thus it will be seen that due -to this construction, the lining 8 of fabric material is free of the glove except for the lines of stitching 11 and 12. The lining also includes a protecting section 13 which is constructed of leather and so formed that lingers 14 are provided, the lingers 14 extending from the palm section 15, -the protecting section being secured to the lining 8 at the palm of the glove between the fabric section 8 and palm of the glove, by means of the line of stitching As shown, the lingers 14 of the protecting section are substantially shorter than the lingers 9 of the lining and are secured to the lining at points in spaced relation with the ends of the lingers of the lining and fingers of the glove, by means of a line of stitching 17, thereby avoiding bulkiness at the ends of `the lingers to impair the efficiency of the glove by the attendant, in guiding sheet material free of wrinkles to the roll being formed.

The thumbV of the glove is protected by the leather insert 18 which is secured to the thumb section 10 of the lining 8, by the line of stitching 19, which line of stitching holds the leather insert in its proper position on the lining, free of the thumb of the glove proper.

From the foregoing it will be seen that due to the construction shown and described, I have provided a leather work glove used by attendants in guiding wide sheet material as the sheet material is being rolled onto supporting spools or rods for transportation, the glove being reinforced to withstand wear and the construction of the glove being such as to eliminate bulkiness at the extreme tip ends of the glove lingers to impair the utility of the glove for the particular type of work for which it has been constructed.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is:

A work glove construction comprising a leather glove body having lingers and a thumb portion, a fabric protecting lining having lingers and a thumb portion positioned within the glove and secured to said lingers and thumb portion of the glove within the glove by lines of stitching at the ends of said lingers and thumb portion, leaving the major portion of said fabric lining free of said glove, a leather protecting section embodying lingers, positioned over and secured to the main portion of the fabric protecting lining and being secured to the lingers of the fabric protecting lining at the outer ends of said lingers of the leather protecting section, the ends of the fingers of said leather protecting section terminating short of the ends of the lingers of the fabric protecting lining and glove, leaving the ends of the lingers of the glove free of the protecting lining for gripping an article, and said leather protecting section being also secured to said fabric protecting lining by a line of stitches extending across the leather protecting section, adjacent to the wrist portion of the glove.
