  • This invention relates to coat sleeves, and has more particular reference to such a sleeve havin a wristlet and a mitten attaching device secured in the outer end portion thereof, whereby a mitten may be removably retained against loss and in wearing position with its wrist portion disposed over the outer end of the wristlet and within the outer end of the sleeve to keep cold air from passing up the sleeve.

2 Claims.
This invention relates to coat sleeves, and has more particular reference to such a sleeve havin a wristlet and a mitten attaching device secured in the outer end portion thereof, whereby a mitten may be removably retained against loss and in wearing position with its wrist portion disposed over the outer end of the wristlet and within the outer end of the sleeve to keep cold air from passing up the sleeve.
An object of the invention is to provide a simple and efficient assembly of a sleeve, a wristlet and a mitten attaching device, and one wherein the said device includes an elastic strap to permit yielding of the mitten relative to the sleeve when the mitten is being worn.
Another object is to provide an assembly of the above kind wherein the wristlet and mitten attaching device are concealed within the sleeve so as to not mar the external appearance of the latter.
The exact nature of the invention will be apparent from the following description when considered with the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a fragmentary side elevational view showing one embodiment of the invention with a mitten attached thereto.
Figure 2 is an enlarged longitudinal section taken substantially on the line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a view, partly in section on the line 33 of Figure 2, and partly broken away.
Referring in detail to the drawing, 5 indicates a conventional coat sleeve comprising an outer ply or layer 6 of coating material and an inner ply or lining I.
In accordance with the present invention, a close-fitting wristlet 8 is disposed completely within the outer end portion of the sleeve 5 and stitched at its inner end to the lining as at 9, said wristlet being otherwise free of connection with the sleeve. This wristlet preferably consists of a length of tubular knitted fabric, one end portion of which is turned back over the other end portion thereof to provide two thicknesses of material which are stitched at their free ends to the lining.
Also secured to and disposed completely within the outer end portion of the sleeve, preferably at the inner side of the latter and between said sleeve and the wristlet, is a yieldable mitten attaching device l comprising a longitudinally disposed elastic strap l I stitched at its inner end to the inner end of the wristlet 8 and having a clasp l2 attached to its outer end.
In use, the wrist portion of a mitten or equivalent hand covering I3 is disposed within the outer end of the sleeve and over the outer end of the wristlet, and the clasp I2 is engaged with such wrist portion of the hand covering to hold the latter in this wearing position. As the strap II is elastic, the mitten may yield relative to the sleeve as required. When the mitten is detachable, it will be held in position for ready use and retained against loss when not being Worn. When the mitten is detached, the wristlet and the device II] are concealed and do not mar the appearance of the sleeve. When the mittenis attached and worn, cold air is prevented from passing up within the sleeve.
From the foregoing description, the nature, manner of use and advantages of the invention will be apparent. Changes in construction are contemplated within the spirit of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed as new is:
1. In combination with a coat sleeve having a lining, a close-fitting wristlet of knitted material entirely disposed within the outer end portion of the sleeve and stitched at its inner end to the sleeve lining, and a yieldable mitten attaching device secured to and disposed entirely within the outer end portion of the sleeve and between the latter and the wristlet, said device comprising an elastic strap disposed longitudinally of the sleeve and secured at its inner end to the inner end of the wristlet, and a clasp attached to the outer end of said strap and engageable with the Wrist portion of a mitten to hold the latter with its wrist portion over the outer end of the wristlet and within the outer end of the sleeve.
2. In combination with a coat sleeve having a lining, a close-fitting wristlet of knitted material entirely disposed within the outer end portion of the sleeve and stitched at its inner end to the sleeve lining, and a yieldable mitten attaching device secured to and disposed entirely within the outer end portion of the sleeve and between the latter and the wristlet, said wristlet comprising a length of tubular knitted fabric having one end portion thereof turned back over the other end portion of the same to provide two thicknesses stitched at their free ends to the lining.
