To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JNO. P. WILSON, of Frankfort, in the county of Herkimer and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Animal Traps; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon.

The nature of my invention consists, in constructing and arranging the several parts which form the trap substantially in the manner herein after described.

In the drawings Figure l represents a side elevation. Fig. 2 is ay longitudinal vertical section of the body. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the body. Fig. i is a view of the screw which holds the body to any desirable object, or at any particular place.

In the figures A represents the body of the gun, which may be made of any suitable size, according to the purpose for which it is designed. This body is provided with a bore or barrel. B, which is formed in the usual manner, and which connects at its rear by means of a small opening with an ordinary gun nipple c. The body, A, is also provided with an opening C, which extends entirely through it longitudinally below the bore B. Said opening is not made the same size all the way through, but is diminished in size from the shoulder a.

e, c, represent two wings which form a portion of the body A, between which the hammer or cock D, is secured. The nipple c, screws into the body between these wings. The screw on the nipple passes through the rear of a spring E, and serves to secure it firmly to the body. The other end of the spring turns up and serves to operate the hammer D. The hammer D, being secured between the wings e, e, near one end of the body and being provided with a small friction roller bears the spring down when it is raised perpendicularly to the body of the gun, and is then in position to be thrown down violently by the spring to explode the cap on the nipple and thereby discharge the gun.

F represents a stud which screws into one end of the body A. This stud is provided with a pulley G, and a ring J.

ley G, it attaches at its other end to a barbed rod I. The rod I passes through the opening C, in the body A.

I represents an enlargement on the rear of the rod. This enlargement fits snugly in the opening, but the shoulder formed where it joins to the rod I, catches against the shoulder a, and prevents the rod from coming out of the opening C.

K represents a screw which has a beveled head which passes into a dove tailed groove in the body of the gun. By means of this screw the trap or gun may be secured to any object into which it is made to pass. The head of the screw has a groove a, in it, into which the enlargement I` slides when the trap is set, which prevents the head of said screw from coming out of the dove-tailed groove in the body.

J is a ring by means of which the trap may be hung up, when it is desirable to do so.

In using this trap the barrel B is loaded with powder and ball and a cap is put on the nipple c. The hammer D is then raised as seen in Fig. l, which extends the cord II. Any suitable bait is then placed upon the barbed end of the rod I, and the trap is secured at any desired place by means of the screw K. The animal approaching the trap takes hold of the bait, and drawing the rod I, throws the hammer D, by means of the cord connecting the twothe hammer eX- plodes the gun and kills the animal.

Having thus fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is l. The arrangement of the body A, and hammer D, with the cord I-I, )ulley G, and barbed rod I, the same being connected and used substantially as and for the purpose herein specified.

2. The employment of the stud F, which screws into the end of the body A, and which holds the pulley G, substantially as herein-.set forth. Y

3. The employment of the screw K, the head of which is provided with the groove u, into which the enlargement I on the rod I passes for the purpose of securing the trap to any object to which it may be attached substantially as described.
