Dec. 28, 1954 E. J. HUGHES ARTICLE OF FURNITURE Filed Jan. 24, 1952 A7707" IFQS United States Patent My invention relates to an article of furniture combining a writing desk, a dresser or bureau, and a shelf designed particularly to economize space in hotel rooms, apartments and similar rooms.
The objects of my invention are to provide a writing desk with stationary,
well lighted writing table combined articles; to provide a plurality of full length drawers and an intermediate upper drawer recessed and inwardly curved at the front to allow ample room for the knees of the user. Other objects will appear from the description.
I accomplish these objects by the means illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which,
Figure l is a front elevation of my piece of furniture;
Figure 2 is a top or plan View;
Figure 3 is a horizontal section on the line 3-3 of igure 1;
Figure 4 is an end view.
Similar numerals refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
My article comprises a top plate or table 1 extending the full length and depth of the article, supported by end pieces 22 which may have the top of the ends curved as shown in Figure 4.
Mounted upon suitable supports 3 carried by the ends are the drawers 4-4 which extend the full length between the ends. The front edges of the drawers when closed are in line with crossbars 33 the ends of which are united to the end pieces 2 and the middle portions of which are curved to the rear on the lines shown in dotted lines in sectional view Figure 3.
The two lower drawers are preferably made full length but with recessed One or more small drawers 7 may be mounted between as at 2.1 and small additional drawers 9 may be mounted on the table.
A shelf 10 may be mounted near the top of the ends 2 and arranged to hold a mirror, radio, books or other articles as desired.
The back plate 8 may extend even with or below the lower crossbar 3 extending downwardly below the back vided with vapor lamp 12 is preferably mounted upon the back plate 8 under the shelf 10.
This article of furniture may be made entirely of wood metal or a suitable plastic or partly of one or more of public demand make most advisable.
Various modifications may be made in the size, depth of curvature and other particulars without departing from the spirit of my invention as expressed in the claims and I do not limit my claims to the precise forms shown in the drawings.
I claim:
1.
