I UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE...
CHARLES G. KNIGHT, 0F COLUMBUS, OHIO.
PICTURE-FRAME FOR MONUMENTS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 269,429, dated December 19, 1882. Application filed March 25, 1882. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES G. KNIGHT, a
Y citizen of the United States, and a resident of Columbus, in the countyof Franklin and State of Ohio, have. invented a new and valuable Improvement in Picture-Frames for Monuments; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construrtion and operation of the same, reference being bad to the annexed drawings, making a part 0t this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l of the drawings is arepresentation ofa. front or face view of my improved picture-frame, and Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the same.
This invention has relation to metallic encasements or picture-holders for tombstones and vaults; and it consists in the novel construction and arrangementot parts, as will be hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, the letter a designates a rim-case, of elliptical or other form, having projecting from its margin perforated portions b, through which fastening screws or pins 0 are passed into cement-filled recesses in the face or the tombstone, thereby permanently securing the case in position. The rim-case a is formed with an inner ledge or shoulder, d, on which the glass 0 is supported and around which extends an innerprojecting edge walhg, forming the inner wall of the annular recess h, which is formed in the back of the rim. The edge wall, 9, serves asa seat for the rear cap-plate, k, which is made with an overlapping rim, designed to fit over said edge wall, thereby covering in securely the glass and the picture, which is placed in the recess back of the glass. The glass is socured on the ledge d by means of plaster-ofparis or other cement, the behind the glass, and held thereto by the capplate It, closing over the edge wall, 9. Aheavy convex front cover-plate, m, is pivoted to the rim-case by means ofa headed rivet, n, which extends through the rim into the rear recess, h. Projections or studs 8 are formed in the recess h, and serve to aid in holding the cement or plaster with which the recess is entirely filled after the picture is in position and duly protected by the rear cap-plate. The front plate serves to protect the glass from being broken, and defends the picture from the action of the direct rays of the sun.
Having described this invention, what I- claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1S-
In a picture-holder for tombstones and the like, the combination, with the rim a, having the perforated projections b, the inner ledge or shoulder, d, and the inner-projecting edge wall, g, forming the recess h, of the glass 6, cemented to the shoulder d, and the cap-plate k, fitting the edge wall, g, substantially as specified.
In testimony that I claim the aboveI have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES GODFREY KNIGHT.
