To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WARREN H. TAYLoR,ot
Stamford, in the countyof Fairfield and State` ot' Connecticut, have invented certain new and usel'ul Improvements in Doors for Post-0tfice Lock-Boxes, of which the following is a specitcation,re'terence being had to the accompanying' drawings, in which- Figure l is a front elevation of a post-office letter-box embodying my improvement, showing the door closed. Fig. 2 is an inside or rear view of the door detached from the box. Fig. 3 is a vertical section ofthe door drawn on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2.
Ordinarily doors ofpost-ofce lock-boxes and the like are made of cast metal, with openings merely for glass.
The object of my invention is to provide a lighter and cheaper door composed of ditt'erent parts and materials, instead ot' being of cast metal in one piece. K Such a door is also preferable on account of its facility for ornamentation.V
My invention consists of an improved door forpigeon-holes,especially ofpost-ofces,made np of a surrounding rim or frame of metal, A, and filled out in front with a plate or panel, B, of other material-such as hard rubber, wood,
paper, or like cheap suitable hard substance-#- over the end ot' a pigeon-hole that .is provided or not with a metallic frame lsuch as illustrated at F in Fig. 1. y
The door frame or rim A may be either of stamped or cast metal, and the plate B may be secured within it, after the glass has been put in place in the usual manner, by means of lugs and rivets, as at G, or otherwise, as usual.
Having thus described my invention, what l claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters' Patent, is-
f An improved door for a pigeon-hole, composed of a rim or frame, A, ot' metal, having in front of it a plate or panel, B, of other material-such as hard rubber, wood, paper, or other like suitable hard substance-substantially as and for the purposes specified.
