appnnaiion inea December 2s, 1ere; serial No. 878,'631.
T all whom it may concern Be it known thatI, WnlLrAM W. Wesson, a citizen of the United States, residing at the cityof Jamestown, in the county oiv Chautauqua and State of New York,l have invented certain new andV useful lmprovements n Snspension fory Filing-Drawere, of
which the following, taken in connectionV with the accompanying drawings, is especie ication.
.v The invention relates to supportsgfvorthe' y drawers of filing cases, desks and' similar constructions, and the object ofl the improvement is to provide a simple and durablel form of telescoping suspension or support# ing means for each side of the drawer when.,-
- y by the drawers are held in horizontal position within the desk or tiling case or,v in front of thesame when withdrawn from the oase, the outward movement of the drawer being limited yet sufficient to. permit perfect freedom of accessto all parts of the drawer when withdrawn; and .the invention consists in the novel construction and combinations herein set forth and claimed.
1n the drawings, Figure 1 is a crosswise sectional view of the drawer and the telef scoping suspension on each side about midway of the length of the same showing the relation of the parts, the casing'being shown in dotted line. Fig. 2 is a side elevation 'oiE a portion of the'casing with the outer channel member of the suspensionv attached thereto and the inner channel member in the par-- tially withdrawn position and the bar and rollerson the side of the-drawer., the drawer being shown in dotted line. Fig. 3, is an elevation of the inner channel member of the suspension, the central portion being broken away. Fig. l is a side elevation of the drawer with the rollers attached thereto on a lengthwise bar. Fig. 5 is a lengthwise vertical sectional viewoi the outer channel member and an elevation of theinner-channel member in position therein, the central portion or said channel members being brolrenaway. lligz is a'perspective view of the sheet metal and felt stop for the'rear end of the outer channel member; and Fir f is a perspective view of the rear end o-' said enter channel member into which said stop is inserted and attached. 8 is a pen spective'view of the 'rear end of the inner:
`leniber, showing the downwardly portion of the same Lne olubly mounted therein.
Tf Like characters of reference refer-to corresponding parts in the several views.
Specication of Letters Patent. Patenggd Jun@ 29, 1915,.
The numeral 10 designates the casing orl' desk sideI within which the drawer-11 is suspended.
The drawer 11 has the rollers 12 revolubly' mounted 'on` studs 13 upon the bar 14. at-
tached lengthwise of each side of saidA drawer 11, the rollers 12 being attached to said studs a spaced distance from the bar 14. The `rollers 12 are spacedy also from one anotherand fromeach end of the drawer.
The ynumeral 15 designates the inner channelmem'berof the` suspension. The channel member' 15 is` made with a lengthwise central opening 16 formedbetween flanges on the upper and lower edges of the same. The
upper iange is cut away at 17 to permit the insertion of the drawer rollers 12'into the member 15. The frontend 18,is closed by turning uthe end of the sheet metal so as to .fit within said upper and lower lianged edges and a felt stop 19 for the roller 12 is inserted within said closed end.
i The rear end of the channel member 15 is formed by turning a rectangular shaped l0op`20 in the sheet-'metal with an opening on its upper and lower sides, the sheet' metal end being turned baclr upon itselrp and rnr ing a Hrm stop against which the telt stop 21 isfplaced. within the top and bottom flanges for the rollers 12`to bump against said rear end. The wheels or rollers 22 are revolubly.mounted in the looped portion 20 and project a portion of the wheel beyond the upper and lower edges, thereby,7 forming roller bearing on both said upper and lowerA edges. rhe looped portion 2O projects below ythe lower edge of the channel portion oi the member 15 to form a stop as well asia bearing.
The numeral 23 designates the outer channel shaped member of the suspension within.
which the inner channel member 15 is slidably mounted by means of the rollers 22 en the rear end of said inner channelinember 15 and aA roller 241 revolubly mounted in the lower portion oi the front end of the chair nel member 23. Said roller 241 is proportioned as to the size of the projection or the loop portion 20.and roller 22 below the channel shaped portion of the member so said channel shaped portion of the member 15 will be held horizontally within the channel shaped member 23. I
The rear` en the channel shaped mero ber 23 is closed by means of aj felt stop 25 which fits tightly in a channel or U-shaped piece 26. The piece 426 fits closely within the'rear end of the channel member 23. and is preferably attached theretoV yafter insertion by means of actylene welding. The'4 'shaped member and form roller bearings,
front portion of the upper. V'flangeo'f the :channel member 23 is cut-away to allow'admission of thev rear end 2O of the channel member- .-behind the roller 24.
A stop127fis provided forv the inner member '15 @a vspaced distance from theouter end of the channel member 23,'said stop 27 is "constructed like the rear stop 25 and 26 with; a feltlinsert'inail) shaped piece, a
threa'ded .'hole being provided through said U-shaped'pie'ce and-the lower flange of the channel 'member 23 into which a screw'isinserted-.after :the insertion of the reanend 20 jo'f the linner channel member 15, thereby uniting the .parts so that they cannot be taken apart'zexcept'by the removal of the'sciew 1 thestop 27. The removal of said .screwper-v hitsthe-stop:'27 to slide'forward against .the roljler`-i245`-gthereby permitting the rear end20to zbe removedl through the open front endl ofrthef'ehannel member 23. and the re- I g `insertion of said channel member for reassembling.;;A The stop 27v is slipped up to its place i Vandthe screw inserted vmaking i a `simplefreassembling construction for said parts.
The .downwa'rd projection of the loop V20 '..forms` a iirmstop ,onlthevrear endr of the channel fmember 51145' .to strike lagainst the forwardto `limit its withdrawal:in front off i It. visfappar'ent that this makes angexceedingly strong .suspension construction lwhich may beeasily attached tothe drawerfand to the case atfeach side of lthe drawer, occupy-f ing small'spaceythat the drawer is jreadily removable from the suspension Vand returnable thereto; and that all'theparts may be struck up at low cost to the manufacturer.- :It is obvious also that the rollers areso mounted that'th'ey cannot get outof position `and yet invariably support the drawer'no.
" nationl with a casing of, outer channel shaped suspension members on the inner walls ofsaid casing, a stop'in the rear end of. said channel shaped members, inner channel shapedmembers slidably mounted y within each of said outer channel shaped members and opening inwardly,`th`e rear end projecting above and below the same to fit against the walls. of said outer.- channel a .stop within each of said outer channel shaped'members a spaced distance from the outer end to engage the downwardprojection of said loop and limit the outward movement of the drawer, a drawer fitting between said suspension members,v rollers revolubly' mounted onstudsa spaced dis- 'i tance from Ithe outer sides of said drawer' to engage within said inner channel shaped members, `said inner and outer channel shaped members having opgenings in the anges thereof -to receive said "rollers Aon saidv drawer andto permit removal of the same'.
2: In a suspension for drawers the combination 'with a casing of, "outer channell walls ofsaid casingand a 'felt stop in the rear end of each of said channel shaped members, smaller channel shaped members slidably mounted one within-each of l"said shaped suspension .members on the inner ff outer channel shaped members and opening 0 inwardly, the rear end of eachiof said inner channel members formed in a return bend of the channel portion of said inner member to form a stop, rollers revolubly mounted in the upper and lower ends of said loop to form rollerbearingsagainst the inner walls of 'said outer channel member, a felt i loop and projecting below the lower edge stop removably 'attached within the lower' flange of each' of said outer channel memi' bers a spaced distance from the front end to engage jsaid stop at the rear end of said smallerph'ann'el member and limit the out ward movement'of the drawer, a bar length- `wise of yeach of the outer sides of said drawer, studsv on s aid bars a spaced distance apart, rollers revolubly mounted on said studs a spaced distance from the sides of the drawervto-engage within said inner channel.
members, said inner and outer channel members having openings in their upper anges to permit the-ingrv ss and egress of said rollers on said drawer.
