FOWL-FETTER.

fo all 'w/om it may cant-em Be it known that I, SANFORD J. BAKER, of West Waterville, in the county of Kennebee and State of Maine, have invented a new and Improved Fetter for Fowls, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

The invention consists in the combination, with a spur-wire, of a metallic collar or belt having twojaws, of, which one is folded over 10 the end of the other, and a spindle passing through apertures in the jaws, and eyes in the spur-wire, as hereinafter described.

Reference is to be had to the aecompanying drawings,forming part of this specification, in

which similar letters of referenceindicate corresponding' parts in all the fignres.

Figure l represents a hen having one ot' my improved fetters secnred on one leg. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the improved fetter.

The wire A is bent to form spurs and a the leg of the loop, B', and two side eyes, B, a short dis-' tance from this loop. A strip of sheet metal is bent to form a loop, O, and two jaws, D E, projecting from it, thejawD being longer than thejaw E, and this longer jaw being folded over the end of the shorterjaw, as shown in Fig. 3. Preferably the end of the longerjaw is made tapering. A pintle, F, is passed through the eyes B, and through apcrtures in the jaws, and the ends of this pintle are bent over or provided with heads or eyes to hold the pintle in place. To secure the fetter on the leg ot' a hen the jaws D E are separated and the henls leg` is passed into the loop O, upon which the jaws D E are pressed together, and the end ot' the long jaw is bent over the short jaw to hold the collar or belt closed. Then the spnrs are separated to permit passing the henls leginto the loop B', and the piutleF is passed through the eyes B and the apertures of thejaws, and theends ot' the pintle are bent or otherwise arranged so that the pintle cannot drop out. The edges of the belt or collar are preferahly beaded to prevent them from ehaling or cutting the henls leg.

Having thus fully described my invention, 1 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- In a fetter for fowls, the combination, with the spnr-wire A, of the metal collar or belt O,

having two jaws, D E, of which the jaw D is folded over the end of the jziw E, and ot' a pintle, F, passing through eyes B in the spurwire A, and through apertures in the jaws D E, substantially as here-in shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
