Description

UNITED 7 STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES BUEK, OF NEW YORK, N.Y., ASSIGNOR TO G. W. RADER & 00., OF SAME PLACE.
CHIMNEY-FLUE;
SPEGIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 268,770, dated December 5, 1882.
" Application filed September 22,1882. (No model.)
proved chimney-flue, which, when set into the wall, forms with the same intermediate air spaces, by which the Wall is prevented from getting hot; and the invention consists of a chimney-flue provided with exterior longitudinal ribs. v
In the accompanying drawings, Figures 1 and 2 represent a perspective view of my improved chirnney or ventilating fine.
Similar letters of reference indicate corre sponding parts.
A represents the body ot my improved chimney-flne, which is either made of square or cylixidrical shape,or preferably with straight or flattened sides and roundedoffi ends. The fine A is provided with exterior longitudinal ribs, a, against which the brieks of the Wall are laid, so that the wall is kept away from the bodyof the fine, whereby air-spaces are formed between the wall and fine, that prevent the wall from getting hot, and that induce also, by the heating ofthe chimney, an active ventilation in the longitudinal air-spaces. When the fine is used for ventilating purposes it is preferably supplied at one end with a socket or sleeve, b, as shown in Fig. 2, said sleeve extending only around the ends, but not around the sides whereby longitudinal air-spaces are formed at both sides of the fine, and a ventilating action at the inside and outside of the fine obtained.
Having thus described myinvention,l claim as new and desire.to secure by Letters Patent Achimney or ventilating flue provided with exterior longitudinal ribs, whereby ventilating air-spaces are formed between the wall and flue, substantially as s?t forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in pres ence of two subscribing witnesses.
