ATENT OFFIE.
GEORGE O. FRASER, OF PORT SANILAO, MICHIGAN.
STOVE-PIPE DAMPER.
BPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 340,500, dated April 20, 1886.
Application filed May 22, 1885. Serial No. 166,345.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE O. FRASER, of Port Sanilac, Sanilac county, Michigan, have invented a new and Improved Stove Pipe Damper, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved stove-pipe damper which is simple in construction and effective in use, and will govern and regulate the fire very easily and rapidly.
The invention consistsin the combination, with a stove'pipe, of semicircular partitions and pivoted semicircular damper-valves arranged in the same in the manner as will be fully set forth hereinafter.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional elevation of a stove-pipe provided with my improved damper. Fig. 2 isasectional plan view of the same on the line or m, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a sectional plan View of the same on the line y y, Fig. 1.
1n the stove-pipe A two semicircular partitions, B, are secured, which are slightly in clined toward the middle of the pipe.
Two semicircular dampers, O,are mounted on shafts D, journaled diametrically in the middle of the pipe, and the said shafts have handles E on the ends for turning them.
On the inner surface of the stovepipe semicircular ribs F are secured or formed in such a manner that they are inclined downward to ward their ends. The ribs Fare arranged on Model) the side opposite the one on which the partitions Bare secured. The ribsF and partitions B are arranged alternately, and the dampers O are so arranged that they can rest upon the ribs.
\Vhen the fire is started, the dampers G are swung in the direction of the arrow a to hang down vertically, and thus leave an unobstructed vertical passage on the left-hand side of the pipe, or side provided with the ribs F. When the fire is fully started, the top damper O is swung in the inverse direction of the arrow a upon the rib F to check the draft, and when the fire is in full blast the lower damper O is swung upon its rib F.
The smoke and draft must pass through the pipe on a zigzag line, whereby the great draft is checked, and the partitions, &c., stop the sparks, &c., and thus prevent accidents.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. The combination, with the stove-pipe A, of the semicircular ribs F, the semicircular partitions B, and the pivoted semicircular dampers O, substantially as herein shown and described.
2. The combination, with the stove-pipe A, of the semicircular ribs F and the semicircular partitions B, arranged alternately on opposite sides of the pipe, and dampers C, pivoted at the inner ends of the ribs, substantially as herein shown and described.
GEORGE O. FRASER.
