Description
Aug. 3, 1954 M. TONGE SHAVING CREAM APPLICATOR Filed Dec. 11, 1950 Maxwell Tonga INVENTOR.
Patented Aug. 3, 1954 UNITED STATES OFFICE 2,685,099 SHAVING CREAM APPLICATOR Maxwell Tonge, Chicago, Ill.
Application December 11, 1950, Serial No.
1 Claim.
The present invention relates to certain new and cap is removed from the usual collapsible tube, said applicator may be substituted for said cap.
More specifically, the invention has to do with a novel adapter unit with a screw threaded attaching collar applicable to the usual screw threaded discharge neck on the aforementioned tube, said adapter being provided with spaced parallel applicator rollers.
As the preceding statements imply, with freely idling expediting free and easy movement of the rollers over the surfaces to be treated.
Then, too, novelty i predicated on a type of roller-equipped spreader and adapter construction wherein an easily applicable and removable cover may be employed to lid over and close the roller-equipped slot when the applicator is not in use.
Other objects and advantages will become more readily apparent from the following description and the accompanying sheet of illustrative drawings.
In the accompanying sheet of drawings, wherein like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the views:
Figure l is a fragmentary perspective view of a conventional collapsible tube, with the usual screw cap removed and the applicator in place, the cover being shown in its open or removed position;
Figure 2 is an elevational view with the cover 011';
Figure 3 is a fragmentary view with the parts shown in section and elevation to bring out certain of the details and their arrangement, the section being on the line 3-3 of-Figure 4, looking in the direction of the arrows; and,
Figure 4 is a view at right angles to that identified as Figure 3, the section being on the line i-4 of Figure 3, looking in the direction of the arrows.
is denoted by the numeral 6 and is provided with the usual screw threaded discharge neck or nipple 8. The applicator attachment is denoted generally by the or units; namely, the adapter and the cover or lid. The adapter is molded from one piece and includes a dished elongated receiver [2. The receiver has longitudinal walls 14 of proper curvaspaced parallel applicator rollers vided with outstanding members which may be conveniently defined as flanges 2626. The flanges are tapered in cross section and serve as Spreaders along the longitudinal reaches of the slot 22. The upper edges of the transverse walls are curvate as shown at 28 and maintain effective substantially airtight contact with the face of the user. The aforementioned cover is denoted by the numeral 30 and this takes the form of a suitable plate or lid having a curvate center portion 32 and having marginal hook-shaped flanges 3434 which cooperate with and engage over the narrow edge portions of the aforementioned spreader flanges 26.
When the cover 30 is slid off the applicator head, as shown in Figure 2, the latter is in readthe tube into the chamber or well of the receiver and is applied in an obvious fashion by the idling rollers in the discharge slot 22. The surfaces of the flanges 26-46 facilitate guiding and riding the rollers over the surface of the face and also assist in spreading the cream evenly and these flanges also provide satisfactory mounts for the readily attachable and detachable cover. The upstanding curvate edges 28 function as shoes and maintain liquid tight contact with the face of the user.
It is thought that, persons skilled in the art to which the invention relates will beable to obtain a clear understanding of the invention after considering the description in connection with the drawings. Therefore, a more lengthy description is regarded as unnecessary.
Minor changes in shape, size and arrangement of details coming within the fieldof invention claimed may be resorted to in actual practice, if desired.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as newis:
An attachment for the discharge neck of va collapsible tube comprising an elongate hollow head having opposed longitudinal side walls and interconnecting transverseiend walls, saidend walls being substantially flat and in spaced parallelism, said side walls being dished and cooperating with the end wallsin defining-a receiver and collector for cream dispensed by way of said discharge neck into .said receiver, said receiver beingprovided at thecenter of its intake portion with an attaching neck, the upper edges of stantially fiushwwith the uppermost surfaces of said flanges and providing shoe'members which are adapted to have riding contact with the users face, and a pair of rollers mounted in the discharge portion of said receiver, said rollers being spaced from one another and also spaced from and approximately paralleling the inner surfaces of said side wallsand being in permanent nonsliifting relationship in respect to each other and said side and end walls, said flanges being adapted to accommodate a readily attachable and detachable cover plate.
