sPEcIFIcATioN forming part of Letters Patent No. 267,839, dated November 21, 1882.
' Application filed August21,1882. (No model.)
I 0 all whom itmtay concern:
Be it known that I, ALLEN '1. 0001:, of Morven, in the county of Brooks and State of Georgia, have invented a new and Improved Ribbon-Reel, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved reel or frame for holding rolls of ribbons in such a manner that they can be exhibited to great advantage, and can easily be unwound in case parts are to be cut off.
The invention consists of a shaft or rod supported in standards having notches in their upper ends to receive said shaft or rod, said shaft or rod having washers and a binding-screw, substantially as hereinafter more fully set forth.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional elevation of my improved ribbon-reel on the line w w, Fig.2. Fig.2 is an end elevation of the same.
Two standards, A, are secured ona base, B, and are each provided in the upper end with a vertical recess or notch, 0, adapted to receive a rod or shaft, D, on which the ribbon-rolls E are to be mounted loosely. At one end the said rod or shaft D is provided with a head, F, and the opposite end is pointed. The rod or shaft D is passed loosely through the rolls E, so that the same are mounted loosely on the rod. A washer, G, is rigidly mounted on the rod or shaft D, near the head, and prevents the end roll,E,from rubbing against the adjoining standard A. A loose washer, H, is
mounted on the shaftorrod D,and is provided with a binding-screw, J, for looking it in the desired position on the shaft or rod D. Any desired number of ribbon-rollsE are passed on the shaft or rod D, and the rod D is then placed in the notches O of the standard A. The washer H is then placed at the side of the roll E nearest the pointed end of the rod D, and is locked in this position by means of the screw J.
J is a collar, placed on the rod or shaft D, between the washer G and the standard A at that end of the reel.
By means of a screw, K, or by means of a thumb-screw, the base B can be secured in a show-window. If the ribbons on the reel or frame are in the window they can be examined conveniently by buyers, and will be exhibited to great advantage without becoming mixed with other articles in theshow-window. If the ribbons are to be examined more closely one or more are unwound or unreeled and drawn into the store, and the desired length can be cut off conveniently. The remaining part, or the entire part withdrawn, is wound on the roll, and is secured by means of a pin. The ribbons can thus be examined, measured, and out off without being soiled or entangled.
The reel can be made any desired suitable length or height. The ribbon-rolls can be mounted on the shaft very easily and rapidly,
and likewise the empty rolls can be removed very rapidly.
Having thus described my invention, Iclaim as new anddesireto secure by Letters Patentforth.
