HAME-CLIP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 266,678, dated October 31, 1882.
Application filed September 2, 1882.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHARLIE M. DERRICK, ot' Howla-nd Flat, County of Sierra, State of California, have invented an Improved Hame- Clip; and I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention relates to an improved hameclip for harness,and moreparticularly toanovel means for vertically adjustingand securing the tug thereon.
My invention consists in avertical pintle held between supports from the hame, and in two hooks sliding on said pintle, the ends of which are adapted to engage in a series of holes in the hame when the pintle is in place. Between the hooks the tug is held upon the pintle, as will be hereinafter fully seen.
The object of my invention is to provide an improved means for vertically adjusting the tug for high or low draft.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a view of a hame with my attachment. Fig. 2 is a transverse section.
A represents a hame. From its edge extend arms or lugs B, between which the pintle Cis supported. This pintle is provided with a head, and on its other end has screw-threads adapted tobe screwed into or through the lower arm, B. The side of the hame, or in a suitable plate thereon, is provided witha series of holes, a, each of which is inclined outwardly from the bottom.
D D are hooks loosely fitted upon the pintle C, and adapted to slide up and down.

the pintle is free from the arm or lugs in which it is secured, to have their points engage easily in the holes a; but when once inserted and the pintle drawn back and screwed into its arm B they are rigidly secured in the holes, and cannot be released therefrom until the pintle is loosened. This is on accountof the inclination which is given to the holes a and the exact length of the hooks.
E represents the tug, which is secured upon the pintle between the two hooks.
When it is desired to raise the draft loosen the pintle, withdraw the hooks from the holes and slide them up to a higher point, insert the hooks in the proper holes, and secure the pintle again, as before stated. The draft may likewise be lowered by the same operation.
The device is simple, effective, economical in construction, and may be easily operated.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The hame A, having lugs B B, and a series of outwardly-inclined holes or sockets, a, in combination with the pintle C, secured in lugs B B, and the vertically-adjustable hooks l) l), loosely fitting the pintle, and adapted to en gage in the holes a, in which they are held by said pintle, substantially as set forth.
