SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 266,028, dated October 17, 1882,

' To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT S. GOULD, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements 5 in Curtain-Rod Holders, of which the follow- In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a side elevation of my improved cur-' tain-rod holder or socket as in use. Fig. 2is a detail vertical section of the same on line or 00,Fig.3; and Fig. 3 is an end view of the same.

A in the drawings represents a bracket, which is attached to the frame of the door or other object and cast in one piece, with a fixed nut,B. Into the nut B ofthe bracket A screws a socket-piece, O, the shank of which is pro vided with an exterior screw-thread, with a cavity or socket-shaped portion, a, atits inner end and at its outer end with a milled head, b. The socket-piece 0 may be laterally adjusted in the nut B of the bracket, and thus set quickly and conveniently to any length ofcurrain-rod, which is thus readily and securely supported by two socket-pieces, O O, one .at each end. In actual use, four of these holders may be employed to support the top and bottom rods of the curtain. By unscrewing the socket-pieces of the holders the rods and curtains may be removed for washing and other purposes, which is a great convenience for halldoors.
The device may also beapplied forstair-rods, if desired.
Iam aware that stair-rod fasteners consisting of a socket having an adjustable spring or screw follower are well known, and I do not claim the same, broadly.
Having thus described my invention I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A curtain-rod holder consisting of a bracket having a fixed nut, and ot' a laterally-adjustable socket-piece having an eXteriorly-threaded shank, a socket at the inner end, and an enlarged head at the outer end, substantially as specified.
