UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
NEWELL DANIELS, or M1LFORD, MASSACHUSETTS.
CLOTH-HOLDER IN NEEDLE-WORK.
Specification of Letters Patent 1\To. 26,570, dated December 27 1859. i
To all whom it may concern:
Be it knownthat I, NEWELL DANIELS, of Milford, in the county of Worcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Machine for Holding Ladies Sewing-VVork and other Similar Purposes, called the Ladys Worl Holder; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the con struction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is a side view with a part of the table shown to show its position, and Fig. 2 is a front View. The same letters indicate the same parts in both.
To construct my invention, make a frame A (see drawings) with a clamp in its lower part to receive the table C, to which it is secured by a screw in the usual way. The lever B is hung from the upper part of A,
i so as to impinge the surface below when swung down, and when lifted to the position shown in the dotted lines it shall make room for the thickest kind of work.
The operation is to place the work under the lever B and let it fall'upon it, when any 1 strain on the work increases the hold of the 1, I lever B by drawing it slightly :forwardw To shift or release the work, itis onlynecessary to draw the work in the oppositedt recti'on to any desired position} 1 a 1 It is evident that many variationsinaybe i y made in the form and arrangement of my 5 invention without affecting its principles of 3 q, holding in proportion, tothe strain onlltllel work within the limitof the strength Ofth f material. if 1 l What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is a a As a new article ofmanufacture a ladyls workholder to hold the work by the action! of the piece B toward, and in connectionf with the solid part ofthe frame A when; constructed and operating substantially in; a, a the manner and for the purposes as above set} 1 I forth and described. l a
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two witnesses. y, 1
\Vitnesses a LEANDER ,HOLBROOK,
ETHAN ADAMS.
