Said improvement consists of a plate, m, of iron, of convenient thickness, and six inches square, upon which plate, near the edge, are fixed two springs, e, as shown in the drawing herewith presented, by means of which springs, pressing upon said plate, the needle-work is to be held. Said springs e are held to said iron plate fm by two screws, o and t', to each spring, so that by raising or lowering the forward screw, t, the tenacity of the spring is increased or. diminished, as convenience may require. Between said springs is aworli-box, d, of convenient size, upon the top of which is a cushion for pins and needles, and an emery ball. Behind the whole, and fastened upon the plate m, is a spool-rack, suitable to contain twelve spools of thread, with an opening, b, in the top of said rack to contain a pair of shears orA scissors.
c are three apartments for the thread, with four wires running through for fastening the spools.
k is the side part, and Zthe back part, of the machine.
a is a hole to hang the machine up when not in` use.
The whole machine is to be fastened to the top of a table or like furniture by means of thumb-screws g underneath, upon the top of which screws, and extending the whole length of the plate m, is a piece of wood, f, for the purpose of preventing the screws frommarring or injuring the table or other furniture to which the same may be attached.
Having thus fully described the nature of my improvement and the construction of the same, I hereby declare that I do not make any claim to the invention of the spool-rack, or to the work-box and its appendages; but
Vhat I do claim as of my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of the plate m, the springs e, the screws o and t', the thumbserews g, the box d, the spool-rack lc Z, arranged substantially as described, for the purpose specified.
