2 Claims. (Cl. 24-20511) This invention pertains to retaining devices for l slide fasteners, and relates moreparticularly to a device for preventing themoyement ofa slider after it has performed the function of fully closing the conventional interlocking slide fastener structure, in the placketof dresses, flies in mens trousers, and other openings in garments where interlocking fasteners are used. There are numerous forms of slider locking devices proposed and in use, someof which are comparatively simple in design and very efficient as long as they remain new. The greater portion of slider locking devices are carried on the slider member or engage locking. means, at the top of the conventional interlocking slide fastener structure and are subject to constant wear from daily usage and often causes trouble due to difliculty of operation. This means that the wearer of a garment having the slide fastener. is confronted with a situation in which he can no longer depend on the satisfactory working of the device andis compelled to go to the expense of replacing the old damaged slide fastener with a new one.
It is therefore an-object of this invention to provide a simple constructed retaining device for slide fasteners designed to hold the slide fastener in its fully closed position, usually at the top of the placket or garment opening, at the same time permitting the intentional movement of the slide fastener along the slide fastening structure when it is desired to open or close the garment opening.
It is a further object of the invention to provide a retaining device for sliders that may be permanently attached to the conventional pull-tab of a slide fastener and that may be used to pull the slider open and closed, and that may be attached to the waist band of a garment to provide a positive holding means and prevent unintentional movement of the slide fastener from the closed position on a garment.
i It is a further object of my invention to provide a retaining device for slider fastening devices that can be manufactured cheaply. by a simple stamping process with a minimum of bending to form a complete single element, having thecoin- Joined function of holding the ends of the fastener device together and retaining the slider in closed position. q
It is a further object of my invention to proe a. i r. etei iined i s that can be Dermanently. attached. to theconventional form of slide fastener and perform the equivalent in service as provided by the self-locking more costly type of slidefasteners, and also convenient to readily transfer from one garment to another should occasion require.
Another object of theinvention is to provide a retaining device for slide fasteners that can be cheaply stamped out and made substantially in one working process of suitable material such as .stainless steel, aluminum alloy, nonferrous metals or plastic material, which is durable and well adapted to withstand the rough usage to which it may be subjectedin every day use on a garment.
With these and other difliculties in mind it is an object of my invention to produce a retaining device for slidefasteners whichis easy touapply tothe pull-tab of a conventional interlocking slide fastener structure. and which when applied will positively remainin permanent engagement at alltimes with said pull-,tab,'also to provide means for securing said retainingdevice togthe waist band ofa garment, and securely holding the slide fastening device in top most position. of its travel on the slidefastener structure thereby providing positive means. against movement of the sliding device.
With these and other'objects in view the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings andiwillbe pointedout 1n the appended claims. In the accompanying drawings, I have shown one embodiment and two modifications thereofwhich my invention may assume in practice. In the accompanying draw.- 1 s- Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the retaining device for. slide fasteners. as applied to thefly of a pair of trousers, showing the position of the device on a waist band and its manner of engaging the pull-tab when the slider is in fullclosed position.
Fig. 2 is a similar view showing theretainlng device attached to the slide fastener and removed from the waistband of the. trousers which" are in partly open position.

Referring more particularly to the drawin in which similar reference characters identify similar parts in the several views, I havewshown in Figs. 1 and 2 a fragmental view of a pair of trousers consisting of waistband 10 attached to a garment in the usual manner, arfiy 1:2 ,to which is stitched a conventional interlocking slide fastener structure "I4. Having this *latitude of adjustment is imporltanta ,i;t.permits the hook member 20 to maintain an alignment with the vertical travel of -the-pull tab-when=same is at the top of the slide {fastener ,structure.
In Fig. 8 of the drawing I have shown another modified form of construction in which the device is formed of thermoplastic with the aperture 4,6 shownin ovalshape-in thefront wing 18, to fitJaroun'd the fastening button 40. The hook 3 B is of metal and isprovided with an extending member 4 8 which extends through the lower portion of the'front wing member and is bent downward at '50 to "form a fastening means against displacement a shownin Fig ii of-the drawing.
It may be noted that "I have made-reference to the ffront wing and rear wing and neck of the retaining device for slide fastener and have usedthe expressions as a convenient way of designating the relative location of the various parts,-it will be obvious that the'termsare used'in reference tothe position of" the partsfls 'disclosedin' the accompanying drawings and are not intended as'limiting expressions. It should be further understood that any suitablematerial may be used inthe manufacturing of-the retaining device for slide fasteners, and that-any variations in the shape and relative arrangement of the, parts such as. come within the-scope of the claims appended herewith are to be regarded a Jformingpartof my invention.
I claim:
l. A retaining device comprising a front wing and a back wing spaced apart "by an integral portion to form ajhookmembenthe front wing havingits'lower portion cut away on one side inwardlyfrom said side edge to provide -a;recessed pocked, and a downwardly extend-ing arm member having a narrow end bent upwardlyto form va hook member said 'last named hook member being provided with a depressionmidway itslength'to form-together with-the ar-m member, a constricted passagetoprevent displacement ofa pull' -tab, said back wing member extending downward less than the length of said front wing member'to form a receiving slot'in combination with said front wing member to receive agarment waist band. 2.' 'I'he subject matter as claimed in claim-l, said integral hook member being -central1y= located in relation to the width of saidfrontwing member to form a vertical alignment with a pulltab attached to a slide fastener.
