STRAW-CONVEYER BELT.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 265,430, dated October 3, 1882.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ALTON J. PARK, Jr., of Virginia, in the county of Bates and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Straw-Oonveyer Belts, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

The object of myinvention is to provide new and useful improvements in straw-conveyer belts, whereby splitting of the ends of the cross-slats will be prevented, and straw will be prevented from passing between the forward corners of the slats and the belt.

The invention consists in the combination, with a conveyor-belt and the cross-slats secured on the same, ofstrips of leather or analogous material secured on the belt in advance of the slats at the ends and overlapping the slats for the purpose of preventing straw from passing between the slats and the belt.

The invention also consists in the combination, with the above-named belt, slats, and strips, of rivets passed through the strips and horizontally through the slats to assist in holding the strips on the slats and to prevent the slats from splitting vertically.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which the same letters of reference indicate the same or corresponding parts in both the figures.

Figure 1 is a plan view of a straw-conveyer belt provided with my improvements. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional elevation of the same on the line as .12, Fig. 1.

The cross-slats B are secured on the conveyer-belt A by means of rivets 0 passed vertically through the slats and through the belt in the usual manner. The belt moves in the direction of the arrow a, and straw is liable to pass and catch between the corners a of the slats and the belt, and this straw is jammed in between the slats and the belt and separates them. To prevent this a strip, F, of leather or analogous material, is sewed orother-, wise secured to the belt A in front of the corner a, and is passed half-way over the slat B, and then tacked to the same. The strip F is also secured bymeans of one or more rivets, Gr, passed through the strip F and horizontally through the slats, which rivets prevent the vertical splitting of the slats. The strip F effectually prevents straw from passing between the slat B and the belt. The strip F need only to cover one-half of the width of the slat, as straw is not liable to pass under the rear corners, and if it does it extrica'tes itself.

Having thus fully described my invention, I claimas new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The combination, with a straw-conveyer belt and the cross-slats on the same, of strips of leather or analogous material secured on the belt in advance of the slats at the ends of the same, and overlapping the slats, substantially as herein shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.

2. The combination, with the belt A and the cross-slats B, secured on the same, of the strips of leather or analogous material secured to the belt and overlapping the same at the ends, and of the rivets G, passed through the strips F and horizontally through the slats, substantially as herein shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
