Patented July 21, 1953 siate This invention-*relates toa cigarette protector. It is an object of the present inventionA to provide a cigarette protector-adaptedto enclose the cigarette while permitting the same to be smoked and to prohibit the scattering of ashes and sparks and to eliminate the necessity of having an ash tray at al1l times at ones elbow and wherein the cigarette may be laid down on a table or desk without damaging the iinish and wherein the and efficient in operation.

For other objects and for a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the `following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which Fig. 1` is an elevational view of my protector with a cigarette disposed therein,

Each half or section has an internal sleeve pory tion I4 which is split along a portion thereof, as indicated at I5. Integral with the upper end of each internal lsleeve portion is a tapered portion I3 and integralwith the upper edge of thetapered portion I8 are the semi-circular lshaped lower right and leftbands I2Il anddall respectively. Extending upwardly romthe band E20 are a pair of narrow extensions Ill@ and the uppermost ends of these extensions are joined by A similar pair of narrow extensions I Ill extend upwardly from the band I30 and the uppermost ends of these extensions are joined by the semicircular shaped upper band |30.

The internal sleeve portions I4 grip the lower end of the cigarette and provide a metal ferrule about the same to extinguish the cigarette when the same burns down thereinto. The portions IIS are formed of screen material, as shown in Fig. l, to permit the passage of air through the same and along the cigarette. Supported on the upper edge of each of the bands I 20 and I30 respectively, is a semi-circular perforated disc-portion il through which a flame may be extended to light the cigarette.

Integral with the internal sleeve portions are concentrically spaced external sleeve portions or collars 2l, which have the hinges I2, and one of -the external sleeve halves has a spring fastener n 22 thereon that engages portions of the other external portion. The extensions` |00 andV I I also have spring fastener portions 23 that operate in the same manner.

The internal sleeve portions I4 and external ysleeve portions 2i serve as a grip by which the holder and contained cigarette may be held con- Veniently in the hand, and to support the perforated portion I6 out of contact with a surface upon the protectors being laid down with the burning cigarette therein.

Each external sleeve half portion ZI is connected to the internal sleeve half portion I4 by a radially extending supporting portion 25. The external sleeve portion and the internal sleeve portion and the portion 25 are formed of a single piece of material.

Except for the hinge connection and fasteners, the one half portion is a complement of the other.

` portions .are in'closed position, a pair of extensions arranged in spaced relation on each of said internal sleeve portions and connected thereto, and a perforated portion connected to each of said internal sleeve portions and to the pair of extensions connected thereto, the external sleeve portion on one of said sections being hingedly connected to the external sleeve portion of the other of said sections, `and a, spring fastener on one of said external sections engaging portions of the other of said external. sleeve portions for maintaining said sections in place.

2. In a cigarette protector, a pair of sections, each of said sections including an internal sleeve portion and an external sleeve portion, the internal sleeve portions being of such size andV sions arranged in spaced relation on each of said internal sleeve portions, and connected thereto,

gaging portions of the other of said external sleeve portions for maintaining said sections in place, and each section having a perforated disc portion arranged transversely with respect to an end of each of said internal sleeve portions and secured to each of said pairs of extensions.
