This invention relates to improvements in receptacles for lip sticks, and has for a principal object the provision of a receptacle adapted to accommodate a large number of different sizes of lip sticks, and carrying on at least one side thereof a miniature mirror which the owner may use to aid in applying the lip stick, pomade, or salve to her lips.

Another object of the invention is the provision of a body, having a well formed therein and including spring means adapted to retain a lip stick therein.

Another object of the invention is the provision of a receptacle for lip sticks, or the like, including a socket adapted to receive the lip stick, spring means within said socket for engaging and retaining the lip stick therein, and mirror means on at least one exterior surface of said receptacle adapted to be employed by the user as a guide in the application of said lip stick to the lips.

Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent to those skilled in the art upon a study of the following specification and the accompanying drawings.

Referring to the drawings, which are merely given by way of example:

Figure 1 is a perspective view of one form of our new and improved receptacle;

Figure 2 is a sectional elevation showing in dotted lines, a lip stick positioned therein;

Figure 3 is a sectional View taken along the lines 3-3 of Figure 2;

Figure 4 is a sectional view of a modification of the receptacle shown in Figure 1; and

Figure 5 is a sectional View taken along the lines 5-5 of Figure 4.

Referring first to Figures 1 to 3 inclusive, the receptacle generally designated by the numeral so includes a fiat side I! which is joined by a flat side I? which is at right angles thereto and which has a converging portion [3 which terminates at a peak Hi. Also joining the fiat side i! is a flat side H5 at right angles thereto which has a converging portion 56 which terminates in the peak 54.

Within the body I is formed a socket or well H which has, preferably, a curved wall it within the rectangular boundaries and thin walls is and 2G paralleling the converging walls I3 and it. Mounted within the socket I? in contact with the surface it is a spring 2! which is secured therein in any suitable manner, for example, by means of a rivet 22. The socket H may terminate near the bottom thereof leaving a bottom wall 23.

The outer wall I has a rectangular depression 24 formed therein and mounted in this depression is a mirror 25.

When a lip stick, such as the lip stick 26 shown in dotted lines in Figure 2 is inserted into the socket ll, it being assumed that the size of the socket is slightly larger than the diameter of the lip stick, the spring 2| urges the lip stick into contact with the walls I9 and 20, thereby leaving a space 21 between the lip stick and the curved inner wall [8 of the socket IT.

In using the lip stick the receptacle H] is held in the left hand (for example) and with the right hand the user grasps the lip stick 26 and removes it from the socket ll; she may then, with the left hand, hold the receptacle so that she can see her lips in the mirror 25 and can be thereby guided in applying the lip stick to her lips. Due to the fact that our receptacle is small, neat, and inconspicuous, a woman may apply lip stick to her lips in public without making a spectacle of herself. It is also a fact, according to statistics, that a woman uses her lip stick many times between each time she powders her nose, in other words, she uses the lip stick oftener than the powder.

In the modification shown in Figures 4 and 5, the outside of the receptacle 28 is shown as rectangular, although we may make it of any desired shape, and within this rectangular body is formed a socket 29 the interior of which may preferably have the same general form as that shown in detail in Figure 3, and therefore a detailed description of the several walls of the interior of this socket is not deemed necessary. The socket 29 extends downwardly into the body 28, as may be seen in Figure 4, to a point near the bottom thereof leaving a solid end wall 3!].

Positioned within the socket 29 and preferably secured to the bottom wall 39 in any suitable manner is a multipron spring 3|. Although we show this spring as having four upwardly extending prongs, it is obvious that it may contain a greater or less number of prongs and still serve the same function, namely, of contacting and retaining different sizes of lip sticks within the socket 29.

The side wall 32 of the receptacle 28 has a depression 33 formed therein and secured in this depression is a mirror 34.

In using the device shown in Figures 4 and 5, the same steps may b followed as those outlined above in connection with Figures 1 to 3 inelusive.

As pointed out above, our improved receptacle for lip stick holders and the like enables a woman to be able to apply make-up to her lips without the conspicuous use of her compact or her mirror, and since our receptacle is devised to accommodate all of the popular lip sticks on the market, she may purchase any lip stick she desires and may discard or abandon the original case in which the lip stick came and may utilize our receptacle as a permanent case for her lip stick, and may utilize the miniature mirror in the side of our receptacle as a guide in applying the makeup to her lips. It saves time in this age of emciency. It is believed that most women and most men despise the conspicuous procedureof a woman in public places using her mirror from her purse or in using the mirror in acompact -'(and some of them are really giants) in repairing her make-up. Our new and improved receptacle makes it possible, as pointed out above, to do the important part of the make-up-lip stick-4n a most inconspicuous manner.

What is claimed is:

In a li stick receptacle, an elongated body, a socket extending into said body from one end thereof, the inner wall of said socket being circular in cross-section over the greater portion of its circumference, the remaining portion of its circumference converging to form a peak, and a single leaf spring secured within said socket opposite said peak, adapted to amaze and retain .alipstick when the latter is inserted' therein.
