. UNITE STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ZALMON s. PENNOOK, OF NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO JULIUS H'ElMANN, on SAME PLACE, AND MICHAEL T. WALL, on BROOKLYN, N. Y.
HAT AND HAT-FRAME.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 263,664, dated August 29, 1882. Application filed August 3, 1882. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ZALMON S. PnNNooK, a subject of the Queen of Great Britain, residing at New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Attachments for Hats and Hat- Frames, of which the following is a specification.
In shipping hats or hat-frames to their cus- 1o tomers, manufacturers havethe habit to attach to such hats or hat-frames, or to the paekages containing the same, tickets containing the man ufacturers name or trade-mark, and the number designating the particular hat or hatframe to which each ticket is attached, so that ifa customer desires to give an order for hats or hat-frames of a certain shape all he has to do is to write for so and so many dozens of numbers soand so. The difficulty of the costumer 2c. or dealer, however, is that when the hats or hat-frames are sold the manufacturers tickets arexremoved, and it is extremely difficult for the dealer to tell to what style of hat or hatframe the number on the ilifl'erent tickets refer. This difficulty is obviated by my invention, the object of which is to provide a hat or hat-frame especially for ladies wear with a ticket or label, which shall indicate to dealers and othersthe style of the hat, in addition to the number by which it is known to the manufacturer and the name or trade-mark of the manufacturer, so that in case the ticket is detached from the hat no difficulty is had in ascertaining the character of the article, and the danger of forwarding the wrong number in ordering a supply of the goods isaverted.
This invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which shows a hat provided with a ticket.
The letter A designates the hat, having attached to the brim or any other suitable part thereof a ticket, B, according to my invention. On the face of this ticket are marked the name or-trade-mark of the hat-manufacturer, a picture illustrating the style of the hat, and a 5 number serving to designate the article; and hence in ordering a supply of the goods from the manufacturer it is only necessary to give the number contained 011 the ticket, while by the use of the picture the danger of applying 0 the wrong number to the desired style of hat is averted, whether the ticket be upon the hat or detached therefrom at the time of sending the order. When the ticket is used for a hatframe a picture of the frame is substituted for that of the hat.
The arrangement of the characters upon the ticket may be varied as circumstances or the view of the manufacturer may render expedient, and a description thereof is deemed unnecessary.
\Vhat I claim'as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination, with a hat or hat-frame, of the attached ticket containing the name or trade-mark of the manufacturer, a picture illustrating the style of the hat or hat-frame, anda number serving to designate the article, substantially as shown and described, for the purpose set forth. 70.
In testimony whereofI have hereunto set my hand and seal in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
