To all whom it may concern:

P PPER, a citithe city of New York, Bensonhurst, borough .of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Millinery Device, of which the Y following is a full, cleanandexact description.

The invention relates to adevice by which one may determine the eifect of any particular style of hat without having the actual hat at hand.

It is the practice o f'wholesale dealers and manufacturers of wom'ens hats tofsend out samples to the trade in order that an opportunity may be had to try them on and select such as they deem appropriate.

The send-. ing out'of these samples entails considerable expense not only by reason of the actual \value of the hats but alsoon account of the packing and shipping, the hat s'necessarily being of considerable bulk and requiring much care in making ready for transit.

It is the purpose of this invention to overcome these disadvantages, which: I do by providing a relatively large card or screen having a display opening for the head, and

i a pictorial representation of a hat about the opening, a portion of which is adjustable to and from the screen in order that the efiect of the 'hat may be obtained.

More specifically described, the invention embodies in its construction a relatively large card or screen 5, of pasteboa-rd or othersuitable material, having at or near the center a display opening 6 for the head, and preferably also the representation of a body portion of a female figure extending from the lower portion of the opening. In practice, the different shapes and types of hats will be represented on these devices with appropriate bust figures, and the cards or screens will be sent out to the trade instead of the actual hat, a large. number ofv these cards being easily packed within a small space without danger of being'danr' aged, since the adjustable portion 9 of each device is movable inwardly flat against the card to which it is attached.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
