Application July 3, 1951, Serial No. 235,011
4 Claims. (01. 128--288) This invention relates to a very thin soft plastic crotch liner on a stretchable cloth crotch member for panties that are worn as ordinarily panties without the soft plastic crotch liner, the liner being used only for sanitary and garment protective purposes during the menstrual period.
Heretofore many types of panties and heavy waterproof crotch pieces have been designed for menstrual periods with a certain amount of consideration for comfort of the wearer.
My improved thin soft plastic crotch liner is designed to entirely cover the cloth crotch piece and fold or wrinkle around the lower portion of an absorbent pad forming a shallow recess therefor to prevent soiling the stretchable cloth crotch piece and other clothing. The stretchable cloth crotch piece is made of double thickness, elongated and ordinarily connected to the front and rear of the garment either integrally or by sewing. The soft plastic crotch member is made substantially as large as the stretchable cloth crotch member when it is extended to the limit of its elasticity to protect the soft plastic crotch member against tearing. The soft plastic will fold or wrinkle around the lower portion of an absorbent pad. The plastic crotch member is detachably attached to the stretchable cloth crotch member by snap fasteners attached to the upper layer of the double thickness of stretchable cloth crotch member.
An object of the present invention is for a lady to ordinarily carry the plastic crotch liner folded very small, preferably to one inch square, in a purse and when the menstrual period starts, re-
move the plastic crotch piece from the purse and attach it to the stretchable cloth crotch piece or member and place an absorbent pad thereon. The plastic crotch piece will partially unfold when the stretchable cloth crotch piece stretches from movement of the lady's body.
Another object of the present invention is to provide rubber bulb snap fasteners with companion metal eyes to the garment for the comfort of the wearer, the rubber bulb portion of the fasteners pointing outward from the wearers body.
With these objects in view the invention may be more fully understood from the illustrated drawing, the following specification and the scope of the appended claims.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a front view of a pair of jersey panties with my improved soft plastic crotch member attached.
Figure 2 is an enlarged plan view of the soft plastic liner member and crotch member, the members being illustrated in dotted lines in the stretched position and shown in full lines in the normal position.
Figure 3 is a further enlarged fragmentary view of Figure 2 taken on lines 3-3 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a flat edge view of the soft plastic liner and crotch member with the elastic cloth stretched to its elastic limit, the plastic liner member being attached to the stretchable cloth crotch member.
Figure 5 is a further enlarged view of the crotch members taken on line 55 of Figure 2 and illustrates the normal position of the crotch members with the plastic crotch member folded partially around the lower portion of an absorbent pad.
The panties 6 are preferably made of stretchable jersey with a lockstitch that will not unravel and is provided with an elastic waist band 1 and leg bands 8, the panties between the leg bands 8 being provided with double thickness stretchable cloth crotch piece 9. The crotch piece 9 is elongated and either integral or sewed to the front and back portions of the panties.
The plastic crotch piece or liner I0 is substantially the same shape as the stretchable cloth crotch piece 9 and both are secured together with snap fasteners II and I3. The crotch piece 9 has the metal eyes I I attached to the upper layer of thickness and the lower layer covers the snap fasteners.
The plastic crotch piece II) is provided with an edge re-inforcement binding strip [2 and holds the soft rubber bulb fasteners l3 for attachment to companion metal eyes II on the stretchable cloth crotch member.
A pair of my improved tabs [4 are secured near each end of the stretchable cloth crotch piece 9 beyond the ends of the soft plastic liner and project over the ends of the plastic liner and are provided with snap fasteners 15. The snap fasteners l5 are provided to fasten the gauze [B of the absorbent pad I! and hold the pad and gauze entirely over the soft plastic member l0.
It is obvious from the foregoing description that the jersey panties are for everyday use including the stretchable cloth crotch piece which is attached to the front and rear of the panties for ordinary comfort and normal clothing. When it is necessary to use an absorbent pad the plastic crotch piece is attached to the stretchable cloth crotch piece and a pad is placed on the plastic crotch piece. The tabs M are attached to the gauze of the pad and hold the pad on the plastic liner. The soft plastic crotch piece will normally fold and wrinkle around the lower portion of the absorbent pad which forms a recess to retain extra menstrual flow. The soiled pad and soft plastic crotch piece are easily removed, the soft plastic crotch piece washed and replaced, a new pad placedon-i the soft pasmecmlca piece and connectedtc' the tabs of the jersey panties.
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. Panties with a plastic crotch liner compris ing, cloth panties having a front and rear portion and an elastic waist band, ani'elongateda cloth 1 crotch piece, said crotch piece being-'made'tfrom a stretchable elastic cloth that can be stretched 4 shape as the elongated cloth crotch piece when stretched to the greater size, and said cloth crotch piece wrinkling said plastic crotch piece liner around the lower portion of an absorbent pad when placed thereon whereby said plastic crotch piece will give and partially unfold with the movements of the body as said cloth stretches.
2. Panties as claimed'in claim 1 with the plastic crotch piece being' made from a thin soft pliable plastic whereby it may be folded very small to be carried in a ladys purse.
3. Panties-as-claimed in claim 1 with the oletachable attachments being made with rubber isnap. bulb fasteners-in metal eyes.
