United States Patent PANTY WITH NAPKIN SUSPENSION MEANS Stephen Schmidt, Clifton, N. J.
Application January 6, 1954, Serial No. 402,513
1 Claim. (Cl. 128-289) This invention relates to new and useful improvements and structural refinements in panties, and the principal object of the invention is to provide a panty of the character herein described, which is equipped with builtin suspension means for catarnenial napkins.
An important feature of the invention resides in arranging the napkin suspension means in such manner that they are unobtrusive and do not cause any discomfort or inconvenience when the panty is worn in a conventional manner, that is, without the napkin.
Some of the advantages of the invention reside in its simplicity of construction, in its efficient and dependable operation and in its adaptability to economical manufacture.
These together with other objects and advantages which will become subsequently apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure l is a side perspective view showing the invention in use;
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view of the invention per se;
Figure 3 is a fragmentary perspective detail illustrab ing the inside of the front section of the panty;
Figure 4 is a fragmentary perspective detail illustrat ing the inside of the rear section of the panty; and
Figure 5 is a fragmentary inside perspective detail illustrating a slightly modified form of the invention.
Referring now to the accompanying drawings in detail, the panty is designated generally by the reference character and comprises front and rear sections 12, 14, respectively, forming a crotch 16 at the bottom thereof, the sections 12, 14 having spaced side edges which define a pair of leg openings 18, as will be clearly understood.
An elastic band 20 is provided in a suitable hem 22 at the waist of the rear section 14, and end portions 24 of the band 20 bridge the top of the leg openings 18 and are secured to the front section 12, as indicated at 26.
The panty is provided at the inside thereof with a liner 28 of moisture-resistant material and a conventional catamenial napkin 30 is removably positioned in the 2,703,085 Patented Mar. 1, 1955 crotch portion 16 of the panty, as is clearly shown in Figure 2.
The means for sustaining the napkin in place consists of a pair of superposed straps 32 which are stitched to and extend downwardly from the waist region of the rear section 14 and are adapted to receive between the free, lower end portions thereof an end portion of the napkin 30, as illustrated in Figure 4. The free end portions of the straps 32 are equipped with coacting fastener elements 34 which, after penetrating the material of the napkin, are fastened together.
At the front of the garment, the suspension means assume the form of a pair of superposed straps 36 which extend transversely of the front section 12 and are secured thereto at the ends thereof, as shown in Figure 3. The adjacent free end portion of the napkin 30 is interposed between the straps 36 and is fastened therebetween by means of coacting snap fastener elements 38 with which the straps 36 are equipped.
In a slightly modified embodiment of the invention illustrated in Figure 5, the suspension straps 32a are provided at their free end with a conventional clasp 40 wherein the end portions of the napkin 30 may be anchored, as illustrated.
From the foregoing, the construction and operation of the device will be readily understood and further explanation is believed to be unnecessary. However, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the appended claim.
What is claimed as new is as follows:
A panty comprising a front and rear section substantially covering a portion of the body of the wearer and forming a crotch at the bottom thereof and having spaced side edges defining a pair of leg openings, elastic bands connecting together the spaced side edges of the front and rear sections at the top of said leg openings, a catamenial napkin removably positioned in the crotch portion of the panty, and means provided on said front and rear sections for sustaining said napkin in position, said means including a pair of superposed horizontally disposed straps connected to the side edges of each of said front .and rear sections adjacent the upper end thereof, the straps in each pair overlying and underlying an end portion of said napkin, a pair of fastening elements on the straps in each pair for securing the ends of the napkin to the straps thereby sustaining said napkin in position.
