Claims. l

'I'his invention relates to necktie cleaning and pressing devices of the type particularly adapted for four-in-hand ties, and in particular a pair of plates with tapering edges and having spaced notches in the intermediate parts and tie holding clips having hooks for attaching the clips to the ends of the ties and latch elements for retaining the clips in notches of the plates.

The purpose of this invention is to provide a device for holding and forming the ends of a four-in-hand necktie to facilitate cleaning the tie and which also provides means for stretching and pressing the tie.

Various devices have been provided for forming four-in-hand neckties but because ties of this type are not uniform in size it has been found dilcult to provide stretching and forming devices of this type that are adapted for universal use. With this thought in mind this invention contemplates a pair of tie forming plates having tapering edges and tie holding clips with means for retaining the clips in adjusted positions on the plates.

'Ihe object of this invention is, therefore, to provide means for forming four-inhand necktie shaping, cleaning, and pressing devices whereby the device is adapted for use with ties of different sizes.

Another object of the invention is to provide a four-in-hand necktie cleaner and presser that is adapted for continuous use.

Another object of the invention is to provide a four-in-hand necktie cleaner and presser upon which a necktie may remain overnight or between uses thereof.

A further object of the invention is to provide a four-in-hand necktie cleaning and pressing device which is of a simple and economical construction.

With these and other objects and advantages in View the invention embodies elongated flat members with tapering edges and with spaced holding elements extended upwardly from the bases of the members and clips with spaced hook like pins extended therefrom positioned on the elongated members and having means thereon for engaging the said upwardly extended elements whereby the clips are retained in adjusted positions.

Other features and advantages of the invention will appear from the following description taken in connection with the drawing wherein:

Figure 1 is a front elevational view showing a four-in-hand necktie positioned on the parts of the cleaning and pressing device.

Figure 2 is a front elevational view on an enlarged scale illustrating the vsection of the cleaning and pressing device as used in the large end of a necktie.

Figure 3 is a similar view showing the section of the device that is used in the small end of a necktie.

Figure 4 is a longitudinal section taken on line 4--4 of Fig. 2 showing the holding elements extended from the under surface of the part shown in Fig. 2.

Figure 5 is a similar section taken on line 5 5 of Fig. 3 with the elements extended from the surface of the parts shown in the small end of the necktie.

Figure 6 is a front elevational view showing the clip for holding the large end of a necktie on the stretching device.

Figure 7 is a cross section taken on line 'I-1 of Fig. 6 showing the clip.

Figure 8 is a front elevational view showing the clip retaining the small end of the necktie on the clean-ing and pressing device.

Figure 9 is a section taken on line 9 9 of Fig. 8 showing the hook extended from the clip.

Referring now to the drawing wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts the improved four-in-hand necktie cleaner and stretcher of this invention includes a plate I 0 for positioning in the large end of a necktie I I, a plate I2 'for positioning in the small end of the necktie, a clip I3 for holding the large end of the necktie on the plate, and a clip I4 for holding the small end of the necktie.

As illustrated in Figs. 2 and 4 the plate I0 is formed with tapering edges I5 and I6 and a V- shaped outer end I'I and the material of the plate is punched rearwardly forming slots I8 with extensions I 9 extended from the opposite surface of the plate.

The slots I8 of the plate I0 are positioned to receive a hook 2U on the end of a tab 2| of the clip I3 and hooks 22 on the outer ends of pins 23 are clamped in sockets 24, of outwardly extended arms 25 and 26 of the clip I3, as illustrated in Fig. 6 whereby with the hooks 22 secured in the edge of the end of a necktie the clip is drawn outwardly to stretch the end of the tie and the hook 20 inserted in one of the slots I8. The clip I3 is provided with upwardly extended wings 21 and 28 to facilitate gripping the clip by hand.

The slots 34 are positioned to receive a hook 36 on the end of the clip i4 and hooks 31 on pins 38 which are clamped in sockets 39 on arms 40 and 4I of the clip I4 are positioned to be hooked into the small end of the necktie. With the parts positioned in this manner wings 42 and 43 extended upwardly from the ends of the arms 4D and 4I facilitate gripping the clip between the thumb and forefinger of a hand so that the small end of the necktie may be stretched with the hook 3B positioned to be engaged with one of the slots 34 for retaining the clip with the end of the necktie stretched.

With the parts formed in this manner the sections of the device are inserted in opposite ends of the necktie and with the ends of the tie retained in stretched position by the clips the tie may readily be cleaned and pressed, and by remaining upon the parts as it drys the tie will have the same appearance as if it had been pressed.

It will be understood that modifications may be made in the design and arrangements of the parts without departing from the spirit of the invention.

What is claimed is:

l. A necktie cleaning and pressing device comprising a plate having tapering edges and having spaced notches therein extended along the longitudinal medial line thereof, and a-clip having a hook positioned thereon so that the hook may selectively extend into one of the said notches of the plate and said clip also having necktie holding hooks extended therefrom.

2. A necktie cleaning and pressing device comprising a plate having tapering edges and having spaced notches therein extending along the longitudinal medial line thereof, and a clip having a hook positioned thereon so that the hook may selectively coact with one of the said notches of the plate and also having spaced necktie gripping hooks carried by outwardly extended arms thereof.

3. A necktie cleaning and pressing device coming a hook positioned prising a plate having tapering edges and having spaced notches therein extending along the longitudinal medial line thereof, and a clip havthereon so that the hook may selectively coact with one of the said notches of the plate and also having spaced necktie gripping hooks carried by outwardly extended arms thereof, said clip having thumb and nger gripping wings extended upwardly therefrom.

In a four-in-hand necktie cleaning and pressing device, the combination which comprises a pair of plates having tapering edges corresponding, respectively, to the tapering sides of the large and small ends of a necktie, said plates having spaced notches in the large ends extended along the longitudinal medial line thereof, and V-shaped clips providing outwardly extended arms and having parallel necktie gripping hooks extended from said arms and also having hooks extended therefrom positioned thereon whereby one of the said last said hooks may selectively coact with one of the notches of the plates.

In a four-in-hand necktie cleaning and pressing device, the combination which comprises a pair of plates having tapering edges corresponding, respectively, to the tapering sides of the large and small ends of a necktie, said plates having spaced notches in the large ends extended along the longitudinal medial line thereof, and V-shaped clips providing outwardly extended arms and having parallel necktie gripping hooks extended from said arms and also having hooks extended therefrom and positioned thereon whereby one of the said last said hooks may selectively coact with one of the notches of the plates, said clips having thumb and finger gripping wings extended therefrom.
