" Device FOR CLEANING m'rnnnnnrai. 'sraons.
Application filed A ril 26, 1926, S'rial' n 1 My invention relates to a ing the spaces between the t and e cient nature.
' In carrylng out bar or bars n the form of a device for cleaneeth, and has for. its ob'ect to provide one of a very simple" this invention, I provide a bow between the ends of which a thread is stretched, the
thread being drawn to and teeth. i
The limbs of thedevice are mately in formof the letter I bars of the 27s being ends-the middle laid close together so that fro between the bent approxi- Z near their the limbs cross one another and in such a manner that when the uncrossed parts comprising the whole or the greater part of the the crossing and between it limbs adjoining and the loop of the bow are pressed together, the ends move apart and draw tight a thread attached to the tips of the how.
The appliance also includes a receptacle for holdin a supply fastening the thread In order that my of thread, means for and for cutting it.
invention may be properly understood and carried into effect, I
hav hereunto appended one sheet of drawings, of which Figure and Figure 2 a side view The bow consists of a 1 is a front elevation, of the apparatus. bent bar 1 having its limbs 1, 4, extended parallel, or slightly inclined, to each other, 5. This crossing is effected limb towards the other or about 90.
and then crossed at by bending each through an angle of, After a short distance each limb is again bent through an angle of, or about 90 and extended parallel, or inclined at a small angle to the other or to its own previous direction, but not each limb being thus shape in the same line, (1 approximately in the form of the letter Z, the centre bar of the Z of one limb being the other.
In each tip 3 of the bow and around or partly groove 7", this groove being an led or undercut on that close to that of there is a slit 1 1 around each tip is a preferably right side nearest the ent of the bow. The thread is coiled in a container 8, held in the loop 12 of the bow by means of flanges 13. Said container has a thread cutter 17. The limbs of the bow have thread fastening buttons 10.
From the container 8 the to the tips of the bow, and tion of the complete thread 2 is taken from the formalimbs it will be seen that the angle formed between the thread and each tip is 90 or appr oximating thereo4,s 2e,ana in Great Britain October 17, 1925.
second slit. By nowpressing together with the fingers on any part of the limbs 41, 4:, between the crossing 5 and the looped part of the bar 1, the ends 3, 3, are moved apart and stretch the thread 2, attached to the tips. Thus held the thread "is inserted bebetween the teeth and drawn to and fro be tween them. A thread cutter 17 is formed on, or attached to, the container.
By thus bending the limbs of the bow approximately in the form of the letter Z and crossing them to form approximately the letter H many advantages are obtained. The operating part 2 of the thread being at, or about at right angles to the tips, its'whole length is available for cleaning and the width from tip to tip is thus reduced to a minimum which makes for convenience when the tips are inserted into the month. By making the crossing 5 parallel to thread 2 the distance between them is reduced to a minimum and consequently the distance from the users fingers (when holding the instrument on the other side of the crossing 5 from the thread 2) is also reduced to a minimum, thus affording him the maximum control over the manipulation of thread 2. Since the limbs are wide apart between crossing 5 and loop 1, ample travel of the tips can be obtained in order to takeup any stretch of the thread 2 and to vary the 1on gitudinal tension on it. As the limbs are preferably of small dimensions, (for convenience in the mouth), the disposal of the limbs, wide apart at the crossing, affords asecure grip to the user and adds to his control over the thread 2. The groove 7 around or partly around the tips effectively prevents the thread slipping off the tips when the instrument is in use.
Claims.
1. Device for cleaning interdental spaces comprising a bow having a loop at one end and limbs extending from said loop substantially parallel to each other, the limbs thereafter being crossed by bending them towards one another, through an angle of substantially 90, and then extended again substantially parallel to each other and to their previous directions, such that when any portion of the limbs between the loop and the crossresponding groove and laid again in the" and a groove around ing are pressed together the, ends 11love apart and exert lOllgitudinal tension on a thread attached to the tips of the bow and at an angle to them of substantially 90.
I each other throug an angle of substantially and h n exte ded agai subs antially parallel to each other and to their previous direction, such that when-any portion of the limbs between the loop and the crossing are 3 pressed together the ends move apart and exert longitudinal tension on a thread at? tflCllQCl to the tips of the bow and at an angle to them of substantially 90, each end portion of said how being provided with a slit in it.
,3, Device for cleaning interdental spaces comprisinga bow having loop at one end and limbs extending from said loop substantially parallel to each other, the limbs thereafter being crossed by bending them towards in each other through an angle of substantially 90 and then extended again substantially p al el to eac o her and t th ir pr direction, such that when any portion of the mb b tw en the loop and the o sing r press d together the ends more apart and exert longitudinal tension on a thread at tached to the tips of the bow and at an angle of substantially .90", each end portion of said bow being provided with a slit in, and a groove around it and a container for thread arranged n the loop of said how.
In witness whereof I atlix my signature.
