Each container 3| is substantially cup-shaped and may have its side walls flared outwardly downwardly slightly so as to insure frictional retention of the container within its respective opening 32. The insertion of the containers into the openings 32 is limited by an external circumferential flange 33 provided on the upper edge of each of the containers. As illustrated, the flange rests upon the portion of the platform 28 surrounding the opening in which the container is insertcd.

It should be quite evident that the cosmetic containers 3] may be easily, quickly and inexpensively mounted in and removed from the platform 28. This feature of simplicity in the insertion and removal of the containers constitutes one of the features of the present invention. The provision of such cosmetic containers makes it feasible to stock and merchandise 7 pre-filled containers which may be placed in the completed vanity easily and quickly, either by the manufacturer or by a consumer. In the present disclosure six cosmetic containers 3| are shown, it having been determined that this number is the most practical from the standpoint of widespread acceptance of the vanity. For example, two of the containers may each contain a different shade of lipstick, while another container may have therein a paste rouge. A fourth container may have therein a paste perfume, while the two remaining containers may each have a different shade of eye shadow. Other combinations may be substituted to adapt the vanity to the needs or desires of the user.

Obviously, it is advantageous to cover the various containers. To this end, a panel 34 having a perimeter corresponding substantially to the perimeter of the platform 28 is hingedly mounted,

also at 23, for movement from the open position illustrated in Fig. 2 downwardly over and against the platform 28. A spring latch 35 carried by the casing portion I2 is provided to coact with a notch 36, or other suitable means, to frictionally hold the panel in the latter position.

The panel 34 is formed with a circular depression 31, preferably of a diameter slightly greater than the largest diameter of the circle of cosmetic containers 3|, and has a circle of openings 38, one in registering alignment with a cosmetic container disposed therebeneath. It might be noted at this time that the openings 38 have diameters which are less than the diameters of the cosmetic container supporting flanges 33 to thereby prevent inadvertent movement upwardly of the cosmetic containers through said openings.

A circular plate or disc 39, having a diameter corresponding substantially to the inside diameter of the depressed portion 31 of the panel 34, is arranged in said depressed portion, as best shown in Fig. 3, and is mounted for free rotation thereon about an axial rivet M or the like. The plate 39 has a single opening 42 therein positioned for selective registration with any one of the openings 38 therebeneath so as to permit access to be had to the cosmetic contained in the container thus exposed. In order to facilitate easy and quick rotation manually of the circular plate 39, said plate may be provided with a pair of diametrically opposed lugs 43 on its upper face, either one or both of which may be engaged easily and conveniently by the user.

The uncovered margin 29 of the casing portion I2 is intended to provide a receptacle for a cosmetic applicator brush. Accordingly, a yieldable clip 44 may be mounted in said receptacle to embrace the applicator brush 45 (Fig. 4) when the latter is placed in said receptacle.

It should be obvious that, although a specific construction of the vanity has been described in the foregoing specification and shown in the accompanying drawings, the invention may embody other details of construction without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claims.

I claim:

1. In a vanity, the combination of a housing having a platform therein provided with a plurality of openings spaced in a circle, a cosmetic cup seated in each opening, a panel overlying said platform and provided with openings one in register with each cosmetic cup, and a plate mounted for rotation on said panel, said plate having a single opening therein adapted to uncover selectively the various cosmetic cups.

2. In a vanity of the character described in claim 1, in which the plate is circular and is seated in a circular recess on the panel.

3. In a vanity of the character described in claim 1, in which the cosmetic cups are removable.

4. In a vanity of the character described in claim 1, in which the panel is hingedly mounted so as to be movable from a position overlying the platform into a position to permit access to be had to the cosmetic cups for removal or replacement.

5. In a vanity, the combination of a housing having a platform therein provided with a plurality of openings spaced in a circle, a cosmetic cup seated in each opening, a flange on each cup limiting its insertion into said opening, a panel overlying said platform and provided with openings one in register with each cosmetic cup, said panel openings having smaller perimeters than the perimeters of the cosmetic cup flanges, and a plate mounted for rotation on said panel, said plate having a single opening therein adapted to uncover selectively the various cosmetic cups.

In a vanity, the combination of a housing consisting of two like halves hingedly connected along complemental edges, a receptacle for powder in one of said halves, a platform overlying the other of said halves with the exception of a marginal area thereof, said platform having spaced openings arranged in a circle, a cosmetic cup frictionally retained in each opening, a panel to overlie the platform having openings one in register with each cup, hinge means mounting the panel in place, and a plate mounted for rotation on said panel, said plate having a single opening therein adapted to register selectively with the openings in the panel.

'7. In a vanity of the character described in claim 6, in which a mirror is hingedly mounted for positioning over either of the halves.

8. In a vanity having a plurality of cosmetic containers arranged in a circle, a plate hingedly mounted on one edge for movement into a position overlying the containers, said plate having a circle of spaced openings one to register with each container, and a rotatable disc overlying all of the plate openings, said disc having an opening therein registerable with a selected one of said openings.

9. In a vanity, the combination of, a shallow case portion, a top overlying the open face of said case portion, said top having a series of openings arranged in a circle, a container for cosmetics seated in each opening, a panel overlying said top, said panel having a circular depression therein the diameter of which is greater than the largest diameter of the circle of containers, openings in said depressed panel portion to register with the containers, and a disc rotatable in said circular depression, said disc having an opening selectively registerable with a depression opening.

10. A vanity comprising, a. top and a shallow bottom hingedly connected along complemental edges, a platform overlying the open face of the bottom, said platform having one margin extending at right angles thereto downwardly inwardly of one wall of said bottom to leave an elongated brush receiving receptacle and having a series of openings arranged in a circle in its top surface, a cosmetic cup seated in each opening, a panel to overlie said platform, said panel having a circular depression therein coincident with and of a diameter greater than the largest diameter of the circle of cups, said depressed portion having a circle of openings, one registering with each cup,

said openings being smaller than the largest diameter of the cups so as to prevent withdrawal of the cups through the openings, and a circular plate arranged in said depression rotatable in the plane of the panel, said plate having an opening therein positionable in register with a selected depression opening so that access may be had to the contents of a selected cup.
