Said sides of seat I2, have notches at rear portions, said notches extending upward to approximately midway of the side face of the seat l2, as in Figure 4.

When the chair is in the open or extended position as in Figures 1 and 2, the notches in the side faces of seat l2, fit over the latch bar [5, as shown in Figure 4, thereby locking the chair in position and further secured by the weight of the child and causing the back rest I! to slant to the rear, thus forming a comfortable position for the child. The tray Ill is brought forward over the back rest H to rest upon the upper ends of the front legs 5 and side braces 8 and is then in the proper location for use.

When folding or collapsing the chair for storage or transportation, as shown in Figure 3, the tray I is swung over the back rest II, and then the rear portion of the seat 12, is pulled upward thereby releasing the seat [2 from the latch bar I in the back rest H, permitting the front legs 5, and rear legs 6, to be swung toward each other on the pivots and so collapsing the chair,

When the chair is being folded or collapsed, the novel arrangement of the sides of the seat 12, as in Figure 4, permit the seat 12 to slide to the rear and over the latch bar [5, in the back rest I l,

, moving into a vertical position as in Figure 3,

thereby holding the front legs 5 tightly against the rear legs 6 and the back rest H, preventing the chair from being extended by any means other than further movement upward of the rear of the seat l2.

The safety strap I3 is. then connected to the tray as shown in Figure 3, positively locking the entire structure of the chair for transportation.

When the chair is extended to the open position a in Figures 1 and 2, the seat I2 is pulled forward until the notches in the sides of the seat i 2 drop over the latch bar It in the back rest H, thereby securing the entire chair in the open position and ready for use. Movement of the seat l2 in this manner causes'the front legs 5, the rear legs 5 and the back rest H, to be ex tended to the proper positionfor use. The tray is is then brought forward over the back rest I! into position and secured by the safety strap :i3 fastened at its lower end to the front of the seat 12.

5 and 5 as shown in Figure 2, are so constructed or formed as to have their lower portion extended outward for a suitable distance thereby providing additional stability and sturdiness to the chair while in use.

From the description of the invention herein described it will be seen that provision has been 7 made for a collapsible or folding high chair which,

by means of a new and novel seat arrangement and other component parts of the chair, may be held in either an open or closed position without any other attached locking devices, levers or catches and using only said seat and component parts of the structure to provide a more satisfactory and easily operated high chair.

We realize that changes may be made and construction details varied without departing from the desires of the inventors or the range of the invention herein described and we therefore present the following claims as our invention.

We claim: 1. A folding chair comprising a pair of front legs, a pair of rear legs pivotally connected at braces within the pivotal connections being in parallelogram relation, and a seat pivotally connected to the front legs and supported by the back rest members.

2. A foldingchair comprising a pair of front legs, a pair of rear legs pivotally connected at their upper ends to the front legs substantially below the upper end of the front legs, a back rest having members pivotally connected at their lower ends to the rear legs in the region of the midportions of the rear legs, a pair of side braces pivotally connected to the upper ends of the front legs and extending downwardly and rearwardly to pivotal connections with the back rest members substantially above the lower ends of the back rest members, a seat, mean pivotally connecting the forward portion of the seat to the front legs and means attached to the back rest members for supporting the rearward portion of the seat, the portions of the front legs, the rear legs, the back rest members and the side braces within the pivotal connections being in parallelogram relation, the seat having side portions formed to provide clearance with the means for supporting the rearward portion of the seat when the chair is in folded position with the front legs and back rest members adjacent to each other and the seat hanging vertically downwardly back of the means for supporting the rearward portion of the seat, the seat hanging from the means pivotally connecting the forWa-r portion of the seat to the front legs.

3. A folding chair comprising a pair of front legs, a pair of rear legs pivotally connected at their upper ends to the front legs substantially below the upper ends of the front legs, aback rest having members pivotally connected at their lower ends to the rear legs in the region of the midportion of the rear legs, a pair of side braces pivotally connected to. the upper ends of the frontlegs and extending downwardly and rearwardly to pivotal connections with the back rest members substantially above the lower ends of the back rest members, a seat, means pivotally connecting the forward portion of the seat to the front legs, means attached to the back rest members for supporting the rearward portion of the seat, the portions of the front legs, the rear legs, the back rest members and the side braces within the pivotal connections being in parallelogram relation, the seat havmg side portions formed to provide clearance with the means for supporting the rearward portion of the seat when the chair is in folded position with the front legs and back rest members adjacent to each other and the seat hanging vertically downwardly back of the means for supporting the rearward portion of the seat, the seat hanging from the means pivotally con necting the forward portion of the seat tothe front legs, and arm members pivotally connected at their upperends to the back rest mem bers hanging downwardly and forwardlytherefrom and supporting a tray at their forward REFERENCES CITED The following references are of record in the file of this patent:
