With the above and other objects in view, the present invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts, hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims, it being understood that changes may be made in the form, size, proportions, and minor details of construction, without departing from the spirit, or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
In the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a side-elevational view of my swing, the broken lines illustrating the swinging movement thereof.
Fig. 2 is a top plan view.
Fig. 3 is an end-elevational view.
Fig. 4 is an enlarged, fragmentary view showing detachable seats in position for accommodating small children and babies; and,
Fig. 5 is a plan view thereof.
Fig. 6 is an enlarged, fragmentary view of the hand pumping bar showing the connection of the susupension member thereto.
Fig. 7 is an enlarged, part-sectional view showing the manner of connecting the flexible suspen sion member to the footrest, bumper and crossbar assembly.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings in which I have shown the preferred embodiment of my invention. The numerals l0 and therrmemberswrigidly-itogetherz" i Transversely, disposed; pump. bars i 26-; andrfl 1 are: provided inethe respective panelssand arew disposed ismthah theyrcan beireadilyi grasped? by:
-- the occupant of the swing, a bent bolt 28 bein provided in the end of each bar, the one end 29 projecting beyond the end thereof, and washers 30 serve to confine the chain, and for a purpose to be presently described.
The device is suspended from suitable supports (not shown), a flexible chain F being provided at each corner as shown, the end link being connected to the eyebolt 2|; thence leading upwardly so that the end 29 of the bolt 28 projects through one of the chain links, and washers and a nut 3| serve to secure it in position the bolt extending through the link permitting limited movement of the bolt with relation to said link; thence the chain extends upwardly and is anchored to the ceiling or any other support (not shown), and when the occupant puts his or her feet on the foot boards is and, 20, grasps either of the pumping handles 26 and 21, and begins a pumping action, the structure will sail through the air with a pleasing, gliding action, and the fact that there are vertically spaced connections to the bars I1 and 26, makes it very easy to start and operate. When two persons are using the swing, the pumping is alternated.
While in the present instance I have shown chain for suspending the swing, it will be obvious 'thatthis can be of ocrd' or any other flexible material.
In Figs. 4 and 5 of the drawings, I have shown detachable seats D which are used for children too small to operate the device, each structure comprising a seat 32 which is secured to the seat bar by means of bolts 33. the side walls 34 simulating horses or other animals, and the back 35 is preferably fiat to bear against the backrest It, a bar 36 connecting the side walls 34 so that it can be grasped by the child. These detachable seats can be easily mounted and/ or removed, and are used as above-described.
While in the present instance I have shown two seats mounted on the seat bar, it is understood, of course, that children using such seats are not big enough to operate the swing, this be ing done by a grown person or attendant. How- I ever, when but one of such seats is utilized, a larger child occupies the seat bar and operates the device in the usual manner.
When the swing is suspended so that it operates close to the floor or ground line, the foot rests l9 and 20 can be omitted as the feet normally engage the members I! or it for operation of the swingand the child can readily get on or oiT the seat bar.
From the foregoing description, it will be clearly obvious that I have prefected a very simple, practical and attractive play swing for children, which is easy to operate and which has a gliding movement when in motion.
What I claim is:
1. In a device of the class described, the combination of spaced-apart, vertically disposed panel members, a horizontally disposed seat member spanning said panel members and pivotally connected thereto at a point intermediate their height, transversely disposed bars in the lower ends of the panels, and longitudinally disposed foot supports spanning said bars on opposite sides of said panels and connected to said bars, yieldable, projecting bumper bars spanning the foot supports on the opposite sides of the device transversely disposed pump bars mounted in the upper end sections of the panels, and flexible members for suspension from a support said flexible members being secured to said foot supports.
2. The combination set forth in claim 1 in which the yieldable bumper bars are hollow and their ends are plugged, and an eyebolt forms a common connection for each end of each bumper bar, foot support, and transversely disposed bar respectively.
3. The combination defined in claim 1 in which a vertically disposed backrest is mounted on the seat bar at a point intermediate its length, and opposed, complete unitary seat I structures are detachably secured to said seat member and bear against said backrest.
4. In a swing device, the combination of horizontally spaced-apart panel members, a horizontal seat bar member spanning said panel members and pivotally connected thereto with the ends of the bar slotted to accommodate said REFERENCES CITED The following references are of record in the file of this patent:
