Description

(No'ModeLy M. N. BUTRON.
00MB DEVIGE FOR DYE'ING HAIR. I No. 260,367.- Patpnted July 4, .1882.
. tion.
UNITED STATES MANUEL N. BUTRON,
- PATENT OF ICE.-
OF HAVANA, CUBA.
COMB DEVICE FOR DYEING HAIR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N0.260,367, dated July 4, 1882,
Application filed April 18, 1882. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, MANUEL N. BUTRON, a subject of Spain, residing at Havana, Island of Cuba, have invented certain new and useful Improvements for Dyeing the Beard and Hair; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, concise, and exact description of same. I
This invention relates to means for dyeing the hair, beard, whiskers, moustache, and the like; and the novelty consists in the construction of a comb the teeth of which are formed with openings at their base, adapted to receive a ribbon properly prepared with the dyeing substance, as Will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In the annexed drawings, forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 represents a perspective view of one style of comb, showing the teeth formed with elongated'openings at their base with the dye-strip inserted in posi- Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view of the comb.
. lhe letter A representsa comb specially adapted for the purpose herein tendered, the teeth 0 of which are formed with their base with vertical or elongated slots B, as seen in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings.
The letter A represents the strap of fabric or ribbon, properly prepared with the dye substance, and inserted into the vertical or elongated openings in the teeth of the comb, as seen in Fig. l of the drawings.
Instead of passing the ribbon through the vertical slots in the teeth of the comb, it may be wrapped or woven around the teeth, substantially in the manner as indicated in Fig. 1 of the drawings.
From the foregoing description it will be observed that the teeth of the comb have an elongated groove extended along the base of the teeth in the back of the comb, and in this elongated groove is arranged the ribbon, specially prepared with the dyeing material, and by using the comb in the well-known manner of combing the hair the process of coloring the hair, beard, and moustache is accom plished by moistening the hair or heard with a little water, and the combing process will color the portion or part desired to be colored without coming in contact with the skin.
I do not wish to confine myself to the special construction of the comb herein illustrated, since it is obvious that different shapes and styles may be employed, and that the same can be made from any material suitable for the purpose; also, that a comb constructed on this principle can be quickly cleaned of dandruff or dirt by introducing the wire brush through the elongated groove and moving it backward and forward several times.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A comb for dyeing purposes the teeth of which are formed with apertures adapted to receive a strip or ribbon of material prepared for the purpose stated, substantially as described.
