Description

H. LlsTER HAIR COMB Patented .lune 141-,a 1927.
HERBERT Lieren, or MONTREAL, ennisnc, CANADA.
HAIR ooi/LB. l
Application :led December The invention relates to a ,hair comb, as described in the present specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings that form part of the same.
The invention consists essentially of the novel features of construction pointed out broadly and specically in the claims for novelty following a description containing an explanation in detail of an acceptable form of the invention,
The objects of the invention are to conserve the hair of the head by avoiding the daily thinning process pursued by the average person with the conventional comb, whereby the strands of hair are dragged out by the roots being caught between the teeth due to the formation of the haelt therebetween; to furnish to the public a comb of a sanitary construction, in lwhich the microbe of a skin disease cannot lurk, as the comb at the base of the teeth may be flushed with ease; to produce this comb at a moderate cost to the purchaser and enable the manufacturer and dealer to enjoy a reasonable profit; to accommodate the construction of the comb to the modern styles of hair dressing for women and to particularly meet the .wants of men; and generally provide a strong hold for the teeth and at the same time a clean base therefor as well as a smooth running surface during the operation of combing.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation of the comb showingr the longitudinal running bar.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view on the line 2 2 in Figure 1.
Figure 8 is a fragmentary cross sectional view in agreement with Figure 2.
Figure a is a cross sectional view on the line 4-41- in Figure 1.
Figure 5 is a cross sectional line 5*'5 in Figure '1.
Figure 6 is a perspective view of the comb.
Figure 7 is a cross sectional view, show` ing the comb without the extension back.
Figure 8 is a perspective view showing the comb without the extension back.
Like numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in the various figures.
Referring to the drawings, the back 11 of the combextends into a running bar 14 view on the V2l, 1925. Serial N0. 76,734.
from which the fine teeth 12 and coarse teeth 13 project thereby forming between the teeth the rounded running surfaces 14, these surfaces engaging the head of the user and slipping' along thereon without obstruction as the teeth separate the hairs of the head and these hairs pass over the curved bar without any strain whatsoever, in fact `said bar is actually a runner von the bed of hair parted by the teeth and not a single hair is caught at the base of the teeth, where usually Vin the well known type of comb there is invariably a quantity of hair often a handful.
The comb as illustrated is the preferable form of construction, thougli'it must be understood that the essential feature is a running surface between the teeth extending around at least part way to the back.
In the use of the comb, there is no particular way that is required in the combing of the hair to enjoy the benefits arising from the construction thereof as in vertical or flat combing the running surfaces will be equally eiicient and bring forth the desired result of' effecting a smooth road for the comb. v
The manufacture may be carried out in much the same fashion as at present.v
In Figure 7 the comb illustrated is more suitable for women and in this form of the invention the back of the comb is also the running bar as indicated by the numeral 15 and the surfaces 16 between the teeth 17 continue the circle of the bar.
What I claim is 1. A hair comb, comprising a straight running bar, transversely1 circular in cross section and of identical diameter throughout, and a plurality of teeth having their inner ends in semi-arc construction and merginginto said transversely circular running bar and projecting vertically therefrom `and forming semi/circular slidewaysv coarse teeth having their inner ends recessed and shaped following the contour of said transverse circular member of the running bar and adapted to form part therewith and orniing'divisions and semicircular slideways I between one another.
8. In a hair comb, a running bar of even diameter throughout and circular in Cross section and having teeth projecting therel from and tapering from either side of said HERBERT LISTER.
