This invention relates to neckwear and pertains particularly to a preformed necktie.
One object of the present invention is to pro- 10 Claims. (Cl. 2153) vide an improved preformed necktie which sim-' ulates the usual four-in-hand necktie but is preferable thereover in that it includes means whereby the breast piece thereof is interchangeable.
Another object of the present invention is to provide the necktie with a preformed tie knot are interchangeably employable with said knot, means whereby the assembled knot and breast piece may be facilitatedly secured about a wearers neck.
Still another object of the present invention is to prbi ide with a preformed tie knot and a For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof,
reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth. In the accompanying drawings forming a material part of this disclosure:
Fig. l is a fragmentary front elevational view illustrating one embodiment of the invention.
Fig. 2 is a rear elevational view of the tie knot used in the first embodiment.
Fig. 3 is a plan view. Fig.4 is a bottom end view. Fig. 5 is a sectional view taken along the lines 5-5 in Fig. 2.
Fig. 6 is a front elevational view of the interchangeable breast piece.
Fig. 7 is a perspective view of the neck band. Fig. 8 is a fragmentary frontal elevation view illustrating a modified form of the present invention. Fig. .9 is a rear elevational view of the preformed knot used in the modified form seen in Piers;- 1 z Fig '10 is a bottom end view of the Fig.19f' l Fig. '11 is a rear elevational view of a preformed knot in accordance with another modification of the present invention.
Fig. 12 is a side elevational view of Fig. 11. Fig. 13 is a sectional view taken along the lines l3-I3 in Fig. 12 and includes fragmentary i1- '10 and means whereby a plurality of breast pieces 2 lustrations of fastening means employable with the second embodiment.
Fig. 14 is a fragmentary isometric view of one of the fastening means used with the form of the invention shown in Figs. 11 to 13.
The necktie, accordingto the first form of the present invention shown in Figs. 1 to 7, includes a simulated or preformed knot H] which is suitably formed of plastic or the like. As better seen in Figs. 2, 3, 4 and 5, said preformed knot l0 includes in the rear face thereof a vertical slot having a front wall rand outwardly converging side walls l2. Providedin the said front wall ll adjacent the upper edge thereof is a hook l3 and provided in the side walls I 2 are other hooks l4.
Adapted toassociate with the first said hook I3 is a hook-eye l5 fform'ed in a stiffening'member l6 which is securely stitched in the upper gathered portion of abreast piece l1, seen in Fig. 6. Said stiffening member 16 is configured as to assist in forming the upper portion of said breast piece I! before it is attached to the preformed knot [0. f
It will be seen from comparison of Figs. 3 and 4 that the side walls l2 also converge downwardly. Therefore, the lower portion of said vertical slot is smaller than the upper and this assists in forming the gathered upper portion of the breast piece I! after it has been attached to the preformed knot l0.
Provided for securing the just described arrangement in the usual tie wearing position is an elastic neck band [8; see Fig. 7. To each extremity of said neck band I8 is secured a hookeye I!) which is adapted to associate with a respective one of the said other hooks M in the side walls l2 of the said preformed knot Hi.
It will be seen that the just described embodiment permits selective interchanging of breast 'pieces and facilitates both said interchanging of breast pieces and the fastening of the arrangement in the usual tie wearing position.
The modification of the invention illustrated in Figs. 8, 9 and 10, is similar to said first embodiment in that it includes a preformed knot III, a vertical slot in the rear face of said knot and having front and side walls H and I 2 respectively, a first hook I 3 in said front wall for eifectively securing a breast piece I to said knot, and other hooks It in said side walls I 2 for associating with fastening means carried on the extremities of a neck band l8. Provided on the said-front wall i I of the vertical slot in the present knot H1 and adjacent 'edge thereof. a breast piece ha ing a gathered 21 and also divides the rear portion of said knot into two side portions 28.
The said hook 2'! is adapted for effectively se-- curing a breast piece 29 in a manner identical to that employed in the above described firstembodiment.
Formed in each of the said side portions 28 is a forwardly and outwardly inclined slot 30. As best seen in Figs. 13 and 14 the present embodiment contemplates the provision of an elastic neck band 3! carrying substantially L-shaped hooks 32 onthe extremities thereof.
It. will be seen that after the breast piece 29 is suitably secured in the knot 25 the said neck band 3! may be fastened to said knot by slidingly passing said L-shaped hooks 32 through the said. slots 30, which hooks will effectively engage side walls of said vertical slot and will be thereby efiectively retained. This arrangement provides for a facilitated fastening and release of the said neck band 31 and knot 25.
It will be. seen further that the ridge 255 of the second modification of the present invention is equally applicable to the just. described embodiment and inasmuch as such an application is believed more or less obvious it is not. shown or described herein;
It is to be understood that the hooks l4 may be located at any suitable place along or above the side walls [2.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise constructions herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifioa tions coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:
